An honest question about music purchases

I guess I'm an odd duck too in that both my movie and music collections are 100% physical media. And I'm buying new or used CDs, Blu Ray Pure Audio music discs, 4K and Blu Ray movies several times per week. I also buy vinyl but more sporadically. With music or movies that I'm curious about but...

Where were you 10 years ago?

LOL! I was a really bad photographer back then. The DSP6000 came in any color you wanted... So long as that was black Todd! The tapered mid-tweeter cabinets were piano gloss black. The matte black finish of the bass bins was hidden by a full length thick glass gloss black panel hung on their...

Where were you 10 years ago?

I'm in the same dedicated room I was 10 years ago. In fact I purpose built my audio room along with the rest of the loft apartment conversion we reside in 25+ years ago. But if we step back in time 10 years, the only gear that remains in common with my current setup would be the 4 Seaton...

    Atmos speaker placement

In my 20.4'L x 14'W x 11'H room and 5.1.4 Atmos setup I followed the Dolby 45 degree best practice recommendations for the overhead speakers pretty much to the letter for the front overheads. However the rear Atmos channels ended up above and both slightly inboard and rearward of my bed surround...

    Are tubes any good?

The two channel signal chain side of our dual duty 2.1/5.1.4 big rig features Canadian made tubed preamplification- a Coincident Statement Linestage Mk 2 and a Foundation Research V5 phono stage.

Is your home theater setup to be dual purpose with both HT and 2 channel in mind? What have you done to make the setup dual purpose?

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen. @3dbinCanada, A Delphi V that I sent back to the mothership and had upgraded to Delphi VI Reference a few years ago... @JStewart, the leatherette remote caddy was an Amazon purchase several years back...

Is your home theater setup to be dual purpose with both HT and 2 channel in mind? What have you done to make the setup dual purpose?

Our double duty music and cinema room features two completely independent source, preamp, and bass management front ends. Only the L & R front active ATC monitors, the four Seaton subwoofers (in a distributed bass array), along with a DSPeaker AM2.0 subwoofer eq are shared between the two front...

Acoustical treatment behind acoustically transparent screen

Yes I did @RandyR. Two completely independent source, preamp, and bass management front ends. Only the L & R front active ATC monitors and the quad Seaton subwoofer array with a DSPeaker AM2.0 subwoofer eq are shared between the two front ends. All the silver boxes are 2 channel and black boxes...

Acoustical treatment behind acoustically transparent screen

I prefer a more spacious sounding acoustic too, particularly when listening to stereo LP and CD. So the front wall of our music & cinema room features a combination of diffusion and absorption, leaning more towards the former. My music optimized front stage setup is quite different than most HT...

    Real Acoustix GuD panels

Your side walls are really narrow due to the shallow depth dimension of your room arrangement. Typically QRD (phase grating) style diffusers are used in the rear half of a domestic listening space on the rear wall and possibly the rear sidewalls behind the MLP. But you must have at least 5 or 6...

    Real Acoustix GuD panels

IMHO, the shallow depth and long width of your current listening room doesn't really make QRD diffusers all that appropriate. They require some space between the MLP and the reflection point this sort of (reflection phase grating) diffuser is placed at in order to work properly.

    Hardboard Diffusion Material

The trio of Seven Audio black stained custom 2D QRDs in my rear ceiling treatment array have about a 5" maximum well depth and are 30" square.

    Hardboard Diffusion Material

If you reach out to Lukasz at Seven Audio in Poland, he can make you properly calculated BAD (Binary Amplitude Diffuser) "scatter plates" from 1/8" birch or maple plywood to mount over the absorbent faces of any broadband absorber panel. Lukasz will custom cut the exterior dimensions of your...

    Music versus Atmos

I've purchased some fantastic music-only Atmos releases in the past year and a half... along with several disappointing ones. The best music only Atmos release I've heard to date from a production standpoint is most definitely the Blu Ray Pure Audio version of the album Point by the venerable...

Acoustic Foam Bass Traps from Amazon

Wasted money. Describing these as "bass traps" is false advertising. These will provide NO appreciable low-frequency absorption and only absorb mid and high-frequencies... Which largely defeats the purpose of employing corner traps. If you are in the USA, take a look at GIK acoustics for some...
