Acoustic treatment for the 1st time and some beginner questions

For home studio go to Acoustics Insider web site and YouTube. That’s exactly what he covers. He also has plans for DIY absorbers. Also recommend the webinars by Anthony Grimani on Audioholics snd AVProEdge. Although that’s more for home Theater acoustics

    Long hdmi Run

I had trouble connecting my JVC N5 through my new ANTHEM AVM-90 to my new Panny BD9004 and internet TV box. The HDMI cable installed by the builders from the front of the room where the Anthem is to the projector mount in the ceiling apparently wad t compat with 4K standard. I bought all new...

    Subwoofer Placement Advice

I recommend watching the all the webinars by Anthony Grimani (formerly Dolby Labs, THx and his own companies) on Audiholics and AVProEdge Youtube channels. He covers all aspects of Room acoustics and Bass Management including Sub Placement and standing wave control. I designed the Home Cinema in...

On a quest to improve my B&W DM640's

yes now you're getting somewhere. with a USB mic like a UMIK-1 you dont need a soundcard calibration but just use the mic calibratioin for that mic's serial nr and away you go. With those traces now you should be able to blend them together well probably with second order filters and get a...

Two Channel Listening Room in a Bomb Shelter

I would recommend watching all the webinars by Anthony Grimani on Audioholics and AVProEdge about room acoustics and treatments. I’ll be treating my rather smaller Home cinema room according to those principles. I would definitely make your space into a Home Theater and listening room. With a...

On a quest to improve my B&W DM640's

So how are you getting on now? I think for an in room response that's not bad. Yes you'll get some swings on the lower end and a gently falling top end. I think thats normal. But for the speaker, measure at 1m and apply the gated time window ( at 1m and 1W (2.83V) is industry standard to...

On a quest to improve my B&W DM640's

I looked at your last mdat file and applied the time gating. your first reflections are very close at only 1.33ms which is less that two feet away. You need to get the speaker and mic as far away from large objects and room boundaries (walls, ceiling, floor) as possible. I have my bookshelf...

On a quest to improve my B&W DM640's

I use a UMIK-1 plugged direct into my laptop. look on HIFiShark.com if you can find a used UMIK-1 at a good price. It's literally plug and play, or plug and record

On a quest to improve my B&W DM640's

I would not use psychoacoustic smoothing as it will give you an inaccurate impression. Apparently 1/3rd octave is industry standard so that's what I use And I didn't try different types of filters like Blackman-Harris I stuck with whatever the default was (Tukey 0.25). I need to read up on the...

On a quest to improve my B&W DM640's

see here for crossover diagram and values: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/upgrading-my-b-ws.198094/ https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/refurbish-crossover-b-w-dm640.394133/ Tweeter has 7mf (C4) and 16mf (C5) caps and a 0.15mH inductor in shunt (ie a third order filter)

On a quest to improve my B&W DM640's

This is what I'm getting with 1W at 1m for Woofer and Tweeter and full crossover response on one of my Linn Tukans. Time gate as I described with 1/3rd smoothing

On a quest to improve my B&W DM640's

your time windows aren't right. see the values I gave that i use and look at the Impulse tab in REW you should see how the time gate is framing the sweep. Left side value should be around 0.06 and right side value around 0.4 ms. when you do this those charts you show above won't be all spiky...

I can't get input level right in REW. RME ASIO, Focusrite ISA 428mkii Preamp, and Behringer ECM8000.

@ SSC check Acoustics Insider on his web site and YouTube. He's an acoustics / recording engineer who helps folks in your situation with home recording / mixing room acoustics. He offers plans for DIY absorber panels too. Steve

    RT60 Model timings

I too was a bit confused but after seeing this post I am getting somewhere and if you set up your room model, the lower Waterfall chart includes the calculated room modes, which is nice and will be usefull when I start measuring my actual room and not just working on speakers in my basement as I...
