The principle of the impulse response time window is?

Hi,John Mulcahy.

sweep 20 to 20000 Hz for 5.9 seconds. a 20 Hz sound is emitted at 0 seconds, but the 20000 Hz sound doesn't emit until 5.9 seconds. If I set the time window in the impulse response interface: the right window is set to 0.5 seconds, does this mean that the sweep from 0.5 seconds to 5.4 seconds is cut off ?(or sweep might reach 300 Hz at 0.5 seconds, the sweep from 300 to 20000Hz be cut off?) This obviously doesn't seem right, so I want to understand the principle behind it.
