Amplifier Gain, Insertion Loss... What's Best

To WhoAreYou’s question re clipping. I have not noticed any. Mitch Barnett could weigh in here. He was the one who said the right way is to equalize the volume levels among drivers, rather than allowing the attenuation solely within AL. @Mitchco , perhaps you could comment? JCR

Amplifier Gain, Insertion Loss... What's Best

And I will join the chorus. I have stopped using my Okto dac8pro for AL measurements and now use the Motu mk5. My experience is that the dial in of the attenuation adjustments in the Motu matched up with HQP. The difference is that the Motu attenuates and HQP adds gain. So, I just have...

Amplifier Gain, Insertion Loss... What's Best

I use no preamp in my system and adjusted for the insertion loss by using digital gain within HQPlayer. Works really well for me. JCR

    AL Filter .wav file inquiry

Bernt, I think it would be helpful though to educate — at least for me — what the multiple value cfgs, such as 1.0 2.5 5.0, mean and how they are inputted properly into HQP. Thanks. JCR

    AL Filter .wav file inquiry

Your 2.0 pipeline setup in HQP looks right to me, assuming the wav files attached match the order in the cfg screenshot (I can’t see the full path). I’m not quite sure why it made no use of wav file 4, however, unless that is a sub or LFE and you don’t use that in stereo listening. And I must...

    AL Filter .wav file inquiry

With HQP, you need to use the pipeline setup in the matrix to account for your six wav files. You should not have to mix anything yourself. Do you know how to use the pipeline matrix in HQP? JCR

    Microphone placement for measurements

I can only tell you what I do. I measure a single point that is in line with my ears and that is equidistant from my left and right main speakers. See screenshot. If you are measuring a multichannel system, as I did, then you point the microphone 90 degrees at the ceiling. If it is two...

Few questions from potential AL user

15 paths for my 5.1.2 system. I load my 352.8 convolution filters in wav format into the Pipeline Matrix of HQPlayer. I’d really like to use HLC but Mitch and I were unable to get it to configure properly in my setup. JCR

Few questions from potential AL user

And as a data point on the more extreme side, I use an i9-10900K processor and an RTX 2080Ti video card to enable HQPlayer to convert DSD64 5.1 files to 352.8 PCM for application of Audiolense XO convolution filters, and then to upscale back to DSD64 for native playback on the Okto dac8pro. My...

Few questions from potential AL user

I’d bet that is adequate for running Audiolense 2 channel and also to host your filters if you want Roon as your convolution engine. Try it and see. JCR

Ok so most of your content maxes out at 24/192. What is your Roon core? JCR

Few questions from potential AL user

2 channel or multichannel? Do you listen to DSD files? Do you use HQPlayer to upscale your content? And what is your content source? All these impact the answer as to required computing power. JCR
