Who's in the game? At the risk of having this float dead in the water, I'm hoping a few members are avid exercisers here.

I try to get after it 5-6 times a week, typically for about 2.5 hours. I'm a little sadistic, preferring to hit the gym around 4:40AM, wrapping things up around 7:30. There was a time when I'd only hit weights...but as I've gotten older, I've tried to focus on athletic fitness. Three days a week, I grind out 45-60 minutes of spinning followed by super-sets/lifting. The other three days, I mix together a combination of running, weighted running, distance weight carries, rowing, heavy bag, battle rope, sandbags, and kettlebells... and I try to do a Murph once a week with a 20-pound weight vest (I have my sights set on a full Murph in 35 minutes by the time I'm 50... right now, my best time is 40 minutes, I've got less than 2 years to hit my mark!).

I started building a home gym when my daughters were 1 and 3 years old. My wife was traveling a lot and it was impossible for me to get to a gym. So, I brought it home. I started off with a pair of adjustable dumbbells by a company called Iron Master (they can adjust from 5 to 130 lbs) and a bench. I put them in an unfinished room in our basement. Over the last 15 years, kept buying more gear and expanding. The gym has since been moved into a finished 2-car garage. It's completely sealed with its own heating and cooling, commercial gym flooring, and, yes, its own entertainment system. I love the location because it's isolated from the rest of the house, which means I can crank Tupac and Rage Against the Machine at 5AM and no one in the house is bothered ;-).

Here's some pics... hope some gym nuts can share their experiences and gear!

Very impressive. That is a big home gym..

A summer before last before Covid started, we decided to do a home gym as well. Not as big and extensive as yours but something to keep us in shape. We had a spare bedroom which we used as a kids play room but now they are grown so they don't use it anymore for playing so we got rid of their toys and added fitness equipment.

The walls still have the kids decorations as you can see.

Since the start of Covid, I have been exercising more and I have lost 30 pounds..

Sweet!

Keywords: "lost more than 30 lbs." That's awesome, TripleJ. If anything, COVID has taught us how important health is.

Have to say, I kinda dig the wall decorations!

Thanks. For us, it was more about weight loss and obtaining better health. The only plus side of covid at least for us was working from home which meant eating better and trying to stay in shape.

The combination of no longer eating out and working out really paid off.

I must admit, my numbers (cholesterol, etc) have always been bad but as a result of my recent weight loss, my most recent blood work showed all in normal ranges now.. :)

The playroom decorations were bought and setup 16 years ago, still going strong. The room is always a hit when folks come by to visit due to the decorations when the kids were small...

another view of the side wall decorations. :)

On the ceiling, I put up those glow in the dark stars you could get at Spencers at the mall back in the day.. Not sure if Spencers is still around or even if those glow in the dark stars are there.

But, it is nice to see when the room is dark. Kids always enjoyed.. :)

The playmats came in handy when kids were toddlers but of course now, they are good for the exercise equipment as well. So, win win.
