Total solar eclipse 2017

According to newsweek,

"The total solar eclipse being called the “Great American Eclipse” will pass through 14 states from Oregon to South Carolina on August 21. Though eclipses are not rare per se, it’s uncommon for a total solar eclipse to sweep across the third most populous country in the world.

The mainland United States has not experienced such a celestial event since 1979."

This is pretty cool... we'll get about 87% sun blockage here, but still cool.

NASA
NASA is going all-out, with plans to stream live coverage of the event from 12 pm EST to 4 pm EST from 12 different locations around the continental US. It's using 57 high-altitude balloons to capture views of the eclipse, and it's also using research aircraft and ground-based telescopes. NASA will host its webcast on Ustream and social media channels, including Facebook.

But that's not all: The US space agency will also host another webcast through NASA EDGE from 11:45 am EST to 4 pm EST from Carbondale, Illinois, which will experience totality for a whipping 2 minutes and 38 seconds. That stream will be available on Ustream and Facebook Live."

I guess I'll have to enjoy the shadow and watch a video of the eclipse!

We are right in the path and work is letting us out for an hour. I get a sack lunch and eclipse glasses.

it will be 70% covered here so still quite dark. The last eclipse I saw that was this good was in 1983 I believe. I was just a kid and remember it well.

Meh! The clouds came rolling in right at the pinnacle of the eclipse. I did get a couple of views of it beforehand though. Never really got as dark as I thought they said it would. It just seemed like a heavy thunderstorm type of darkness.

It really changed the color of the light. Things had an orange hue to them but ya it was not as dark even at 70% coverage as I thought it would be.

I was smack dab in the middle and work let us out for an hour. Was overcast though, so we did not get a great look at it until a minute after totality.

Dark Side Of The Moon was playing and the second totality hit, the song, "Eclipse", got to... "And everything under the sun is in tune.
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon".

Very cool, but maybe they should have been playing Obscured By Clouds.

We only had a partial view since we were not in the direct path. Ended up watching it from the NASA feed.
