(February 28, 2023) Integra's been listening, and its all-new flagship AV Receiver is the result. Having fielded input from professional installers and looking to further distance itself from Onkyo's consumer-focused retail models, the DRX-8.4 arrives with a full suite of integration software tools and XLR connectivity for long cable runs frequently found in high-end home theater rooms. Power-packed with 11 channels of output and two independent sub-outs, playback can be fine-tuned using Dirac Live room calibration software with the option for Dirac Live's Bass Control Multi Subwoofer module. Performance is rounded out by built-in smart home assistants like Josh.ai, Alexa, and Google, Roon Ready certification, and compatibility with remote monitoring platforms to help manage, configure and troubleshoot daily performance.
The core of the DRX-8.4's audio engine is dual 32-bit ESS ES9026PRO Hyperstream audiophile-grade DACs. Combined with an all-new Integra engineered chassis and audio signal path, the DRX-8.4 is capable of delivering high-levels of dynamic range and ultra-low distortion. Its amp section uses an A/B topology to push 150 Watts per channel, with performance optimized by extruded anti-resonant aluminum heat sinks and high-grade capacitors.
The rear of the AVR presents a full array of standard speaker wire hook-ups, with optional XLR outputs for a system's Left, Center, Right, and dual Subwoofer channels. Additionally, the DRX-8.4 provides stereo XLR inputs for clean access to external stereo sources, and standard component pre-outs for 11 channel arrangements or Zone 2 and 3 use.
The inclusion of Dirac Live's full license with coverage of 20Hz – 20kHz means that owners won't need to pay additional fees for Dirac's premium calibration suite. Set-up can be operated using the free Integra mobile app and included wired microphone or via the Dirac app (PC and Mac) and an optional USB microphone. Those wanting access to Dirac's single or multi-subwoofer Bass Control module will need to pay an upgrade fee.
On the immersive front, the DRX-8.4 accommodates Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D out of the box. Support for IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Atmos Music, and other unnamed formats will become available through a June 2023 firmware update.
The Integra DRX-8.4 carries a US MAP of $3,200 and is expected to be available Spring 2023 through authorized Integra integration partners.
