Step Response

Hi folks,

Seeking feedback and comments from the general community about these 2 step responses.

Setup:

• 3-way monitors with 1 subwoofer
• Crossover, room correction, delay are implemented via FIR filter.
  • Crossover & room correction is identical.
  • One has no delay, the other has delay on the mains.
• Both measured at MLP (mic did not move between sweeps).
• 20-20kHz sweep.
• Treatment: A pair of bass traps at the front-sides. General room furnishings (table, chairs, cupboard, bookshelves).
• Problematic square room 4m x 4m x 3m.

Listening test - both sound more or less the same to my ears.

Which one (X or Y) do you think is better behaved, and why?

One has no delay, the other has delay on the mains.

It is not visible. All 4 graphs seem to be the same in delay.

The mains delay (~6ms) can be seen in the phase trace.
The phase starts to diverge at the crossover area starting around 100Hz (XO=85Hz LR4).

Any comment about the step response shape/behavior? Happy to hear your views.

In my screenshot, your measurement of the Y-519I-R was delayed by 6 ms regarding your measurement X-R. At your screenshot, all measurements at one time point. If all 4 measurements are Main+Sub, then nothing can be appreciated. There must be separate Main and Sub measurements to understand what delay for Main is the best. As for Step Response, the responses of three drivers are visible, like most speakers. In 22 ms and 36 ms, very strong reflections, most likely from the back wall. On measurement of 3 and 4 sub was inverted.
