I've been researching Smartwatches for some time and decided on the Apple Watch series 2. My main desire was the fitness tracking as well as integration with my current ecosystem which is all iOS based. We maintain a very active lifestyle with running, biking, scuba diving, and pretty much anything involving the outdoors when weather permits. I was really liking the Samsung Gear S3 and the Suunto Traverse Alpha for their ruggedness and features. I've been wearing a G Shock Rangeman for the last couple years and it's been my favorite watch of all time. I've got a fairly extensive watch collection (another hobby) but seem to always wear my favorite predominantly. Tag, Omega, Suunto, and Casio have always been what I gravitate towards for many reasons. Are there any other members out there that share a love of timepieces? This Apple Watch has me feeling like I have no idea how to fully utilize it to be honest.

I own a Movado watch which I bought in 1998 and it still works perfectly (just need to replace the battery) but that is the only watch I own.. To be honest, with the clock feature being available on my iphone, I really don't need a watch. I looked at the apple watch and possibly one day, will get it.. I am sure there are many features that I can use..

You may want to search the web for apple watch features/apps and I am sure there is a lot of information available to fully utilize it. :)

Yeah, been watching lots of YouTube videos trying to figure things out. Movado, now that's a name I haven't heard in awhile. They make very stylish timepieces. I wanted one when I was in HS but $300 was WAY out of my budget back then.

lol. So true.. When I got my first "real" job where I got a descent salary, I decided to splurge and get the watch. It cost around $300 and it was the most expensive watch I ever owned and still is!

:)

Youtube is most likely the best place to get the latest news/updates/features for the apple watch..

Starting to get the hang of this. Using Apple Pay with a watch is an added benefit I hadn't considered. No more pulling out the wallet or phone to pay for things. Just a quick double tap of the watch and payment is made.

While researching apple watch, I found a really good article on pocket-lint, for folks who don't have an apple watch and want to know the details, go to the link here.

I am interested in following this thread, as in the coming months upon the release of the IPhone 7S I will be making the jump to IPhone. Being the techi I am and moving toward home automation it will be interesting to see how the apple watch can incorporate. I have a few friends at work that have the apple watch2 and seem to really enjoy it. I have tried picking their brains a bit but I am not so sure they are so encompassing in there use as I am interested in knowing about.

I've been impressed as I continue to discover the intricacies of the watch. The paying with just holding out my wrist is my favorite so far. It's just so incredibly convenient. There are also apps that integrate with home automation if you're setup for that. Turning on/off lights, locking/unlocking doors, viewing remote cameras for security systems, and even double checking garage doors when you're unsure if you closed it. The only negative is the cost of the watch.

Yes those are some of the reasons I am considering the Apple watch. I have started a thread on here about my home automation project I am starting. But as you stated the $300 price tag is steep. Especially when your phone is usually in your pocket one reach away.

$300 will get you the series 1 watch but the latest series 2 will set you back closer to $400. It's not a cheap gadget by any means. Those prices could all change if Apple releases another version next month.

If you really want to wear it with class they have the Stainless band and face in Silver or Black respectively $649 and $749. Apple - Apple Watch Series 2 42mm Space Black Stainless Steel Case Space Black Milanese Loop Band - Space Black Stainless Steel
That's nice and all but I have watches for specific purposes. My smartwatch is more like everyday carry. Simple but quite effective sport band and a <$10 leather band from Amazon.https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B011IH9TEQ/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If anyone does see a sale on the apple 2 watch do post it up. I have seen that in the past it has been known to go on sale for $330 to $360 for the 38 and 42 mm respectively.

So far with medium/moderate use I have roughly 40% left when laying down. It's been more than I can use in a day but I still charge it daily as I do my phone.

It was recently on sale for $329 but like a knucklehead I had to have the Nike version.

So there's basically only two versions of the Apple Watch 2 right? The standard version and the Nike version? Is the only difference the display on the Nike version? Also these watches are wifi and Bluetooth....if not near wifi how close to phone do they need to be to work?

Can't believe you just posted that.... might have to run out today and buy one

Yes, and the size of the face. I'd strongly suggest getting the 42mm. It also comes in a smaller 38mm size.

The Bluetooth works from roughly 30 feet away but with the wifi it covers the radius of the network. It works in any room of my home.

As for the Nike version you get the Nike band (unnecessary), Nike+ run club app (unnecessary), and the Nike exclusive face which I really like and the reason I spent the extra money. In other words pretty much unnecessary to be honest.

I think I'll swing by bestbuy and price match, rack up some bestbuy points along the way. Going all in apple. Just bought a iPad mini 4, picking up a iPhone 7s next month on release. Might as well pickup the Apple Watch 2 now while it's on sale.

It's a cool piece of technology and you'll love paying for things with your watch. I love not having to pull out my wallet.
