Turntables seem to be a popular discussion, lets see what you have in your system.

Here is mine, certainly not high end but it sounds good. Its a Sony PS T25

I'll make no excuses nor apologies for it, but the very best systems I have experienced were analog sourced. My modest rig gets me fairly close to these uber rigs.

Ortofon Super OM10. Will upgrade to the 30 or 40 stylus someday. Would like a spare headshell with the Denon DL-110 attached.

My VPI Super Scoutmaster has served me well for nearly 10 years now. It's as much of an upgrade over my entry level 'table (VPI HW19 Jr.) as my entry level table was over my old direct-drive Dual.

Biggest regret as a member of this AV hobby is having sold off my entire record collection... different times, though... need some cash and needed space. I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Great looking turntables, though!

Ya, Lou, thats a nice looking one. Ive never had the privilege of using one as fancy as that. Do they need any special care?

What $$ would one need in order to acquire one like that?

Thanks for the compliment, Tony! Even the dealer I bought it from wants a crack at buying it back. They keep trying to get me to upgrade, but I can't justify the diminishing returns at this level. The whole rig wrung-up around $5k: including about $1k for the arm, $750 for the cartridge, and $1k for the synchronous drive speed controller. It's definitely a set-and-forget keeper! No special care required other than common initial setup (base leveling, stylus pressure, cartridge alignment, VTA, etc.).

I'm not an analog guy but my uncle is a die hard guy. Here's his $80k turntable setup.... The only photos I have of it at the moment. All I remember is it's a Basis Audio turntable some signature series but forget what model. He sold a 1971 Boss 351 to help pay for it. I also know the cartridge alone cost him $7k.

Old Antique...Technics SL-D20. Still working fine which is fortunate as they just don't make them with front cue any more. At least budget ones. hahahaha

Not the greatest pic but I just bought my first turntable. It's a Rega Planar 3 with Elys2 Cartridge.

I've been doing a lot of changing up in the main room, where my turntable resides. I just picked up some new IKEA shelves, as I'd grown out of my 2 Expedits, and they don't make that one anymore.

Table is a ProJect RM 1.3 in red. While it was taken down to rearrange, I'd picked up a really neat looking tube amp from Monoprice. Well, for months after setting things back up with the Monoprice, I was tweaking my table to eliminate some noise that would come and go. Turns out the Monoprice simply didn't like the level it was getting from my phono preamp, but only on newer releases. The old releases from the 70s and 80s aren't generally mastered as hot as the new releases, and that was enough to put it over the edge into mush and sibilance. So I pulled the Monoprice and brought out my old Pioneer AVR....

Anyway,

I had a Mitchell Gyrodec that I sold about 10 years ago with all my records. Last week I decided to get into it again and ordered the RPM 1.3 i red just like you have. I am hoping it sounds great too...although I do nkt think it will sound as good as a $6k Gyrodec SME V setup did.

BTW, how do you deal with your cat, and no dustcover?

I'm sure it doesn't sound like a $6K table, but it's good enough for me. My room and setup is far from optimal.

As for the cat...he's not a climber. He's never tried to get up on the shelves. He asks to be allowed on the couch next to me. And he's not much of a shedder, either. Plus I have a Roomba that runs daily to keep things clean. Never had much of a problem yet.

I figure the table is the best I can afford for now, and might just get little mods to make it sound better, as I have too many other projects to complete first. I also need to start buying records aggain.

Circa 1966 Garrard Lab 80 mkI transition model with Shure V15 RS (V15VxMR, only with hyper-elliptical stylus instead of micro-ridge). Most would be surprised just how good this old idler-drive can sound. It's a keeper.

Dave

My first good turntable was a Thorens TD124. It was my grandfathers who had since upgraded to a Thordens TD150. At the time, the idler wheel turntables were considered junk. Completely not collectible. You could easily buy them for under $200. I fully restored it and stuck an Infinity Black widow tonearm on it that I got on Ebay used. It was a nice table and I loved its sound. I eventually inherited the TD150 and had that for a while, it’s speed controller died and I sold both for way too little to fund the Acoustic Solid I have now. I honestly don’t think the Acoustics solid sounds better. Just different. I could have happily lived with the 124.

I’ve not heard your model but I have spent some time restoring and using the 301’s. Really heavy duty tables.
