Acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee’s (BlacKkKlansman) contemporary comedy with music SCHOOL DAZE celebrates its 30th Anniversary by debuting on Blu-ray™ November 13 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Based on Lee’s experiences while a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, SCHOOL DAZE follows a group of fraternity and sorority members clashing with other students at a historically black college during homecoming weekend. The all-star cast includes Academy Award® nominee Laurence Fishburne (Best Actor, What’s Love Got to Do with It, 1993), Emmy Award® nominee Giancarlo Esposito (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, “Breaking Bad,” 2008), Tisha Campbell-Martin (“Dr. Ken”), Kadeem Hardison (“A Different World”), Jasmine Guy (“The Vampire Diaries”) and two-time Academy Award nominee and Honorary Oscar® winner Spike Lee (Best Documentary, Features,4 Little Girls, 1997); Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, Do the Right Thing, 1989).
The Blu-ray release of SCHOOL DAZE includes an all-new special feature: a 2018 Q&A with Spike Lee and select cast and crew, along with some special guests. Legacy special features include a director’s commentary, a cast commentary with Tisha Campbell-Martin, Rusty Cundieff, Bill Nunn, Darryl Bell and Kadeem Hardison, three featurettes and music videos, including “Be Alone Tonight” from the Rays, “Be One” from Phyllis Hyman, and “Da Butt” by EU.
SYNOPSIS:
Celebrate 30 years of iconic filmmaker Spike Lee’s music-filled, offbeat comedy that takes an unforgettable look at black college life. Amidst gala coronations, football, fraternities, parades and parties, the students of Mission College find themselves caught up in romance and relationships, rituals and rivalries during one outrageous homecoming weekend. With dynamic music, including EU’s hit “Da Butt,” and dance numbers choreographed by Otis Sallid (Fame), Lee successfully challenges viewpoints about self-identity and self-esteem in this original and unforgettable musical comedy.
SCHOOL DAZE is produced, written and directed by Spike Lee, with Grace Blake serving as
Executive Producer and Loretha C. Jones and Monty Ross as Co-Producers.
