Room Acoustics Help: Dip at 185hz

Hi guys,

I've attached a waterfall plot of my room and the frequency response (no smoothing). I have most of my acoustic treatments up, including bass traps, diffusers, and front/back wall absorption. Side wall absorption is still to come as well as the EQ. I need some help in understanding that pesking dip at about 185hz. I won't be able to EQ this out (since my EQ will only apply to my subs at 80hz and below). How am I supposed to get rid of this?

Don't even worry about that dip, it is so narrow you will not be able to hear it anyhow. I would be more concerned about that peak at 70Hz getting that down would smooth things out a lot.

And if I may risk a suggestion. I was scared to death with each abyssal dip and Everest pick too. Of course, understanding that a narrow dip is a "ghost" helped . But, now I follow this procedure to get an average response around the mlp. This way, it shows where the dips realy matters and I can deal with it more peacefully!

I would agree with Tony about getting the peak around 70 Hz down.

As previous posters said, the 185 Hz dip is likely to be inaudible in practice, but the 70 Hz peak is not. I would try to EQ out that peak, or at least take it down.

In addition, the dip at around 42 Hz (probably a room-induced null) may affect evenness of deep bass. You might be able to find another sub position that can eliminate this. (I found that putting the subs in the rear corners eliminated a similar null in my setup.) Hint: Waxman SuperSliders under the subs are your friends.
