Hmm... well my Roku Ultra was playing 4K just fine until I tried to play Netflix 4K tonight... got a flashing screen says HDCP 2.2 unauthorized.

Tried deleting the channel, adding it back... now I get a flashing Netflix across the screen. I can't even go back to my regular cable box without getting flashing colored lines. I have to power cycle everything just to get back to Roku Home or get my cable box back. OPPO continues to ignore all issues and play fine.

Other Roku 4K channels play fine. Just issues with Netflix.

All equipment is supposedly 2.2 compliant... Denon X4300H and JVC RS620... no issues with my OPPO. Cables are all the same as using with the OPPO.

This could be a cable issue, although the cables I ordered are supposedly 4k compliant, which I would think require HCDP 2.2.

I tried watching an Amazon 4k show and it gave me the solid purple Roku screen unauthorized and to go to go.roku.com/hdcp for info.

I swapped the cable running from the OPPO 205 to the Blu-ray input and the Amazon show works. Same cable type, brand, etc... I purchased 3 of them.... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CRA4L9G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Going to order one of the Monoprice certified cables and see if it makes a difference.

When it messes up, I have to restart the JVC 620 to get it working again. It even messes up my cable box that isn't even 4k... until I restart the JVC.

That's odd. Very well could be that the cables were manufactured incorrectly? Or damaged?

I swapped the cable going from my OPPO 205 to the Denon over to the Roku and it let me watch some 4k on Amazon and Netflix, but I still had to restart my JVC to get it to work. The Roku seems to be a lot pickier than the OPPO 205.

Yep... JVC says that cables need to be a minimum of 18Gbps... not "up to". Any weak link in the chain can cause it, especially with the Roku unit.

DPL Labs certified is the way to go... Ethereal, Metra, etc.

I think the fiber is working fine. The one cable I was using on the OPPO finally worked on the Roku, but not without having to restart the projector every time I changed what I was watching. I have read the Roku is very peculiar and talking with the rep at Metra Home Theater today confirmed this. I have another cable I am going to try on the Roku shortly.

I've got issues with one of my Roku Ultras as well. It's the one hooked up to the C7. Sometimes (about 75% of the time) when I switch to it the screen flashes on and off. Last night I even got sparklies on the screen. I have several Monoprice Certified Premium cables and all of them seem to give me the same issue. Swapping out cables that work fine with the OPPO UDP-205 doesn't fix the issue either. I ordered some new cables off of amazon to see if it's really the cable or not. Right now I have it set to 1080P and everything is fine.

Searching the internet shows quite a few people with this issue. The other one is fine but it's setup as 1080P.

Of course after I typed the above it again now recognizes everything as 4K HDR. Grrrrrrrrrrr :foottap: We'll see how long it will last.

Welcome the wonderhorrible world of Roku and 4K displays. Get an Nvidia Shield TV Pro and be done with it. Our Roku Ultra actually works pretty good with our Vizio 4K unit, but we haven't used it much with it. I gave up on getting it to work with our JVC... and now use the Shield Pro without issues.

I am not so sure the Monoprice cables are sufficient. I would go with Ethereal Velox or Audioquest to be sure. It makes a difference, and the Monoprice cables did NOT work for me. I have a couple of extra Velox I got at dealer cost if you want to try one or two... 1 meter, if they are long enough.

I'll take you up on that if these new ones from Amazon don't work. These are the ones I bought mainly because there was over 300 reviews all with 5 stars. Plus they seem to have good support.

I'm kind of wondering if changing the HDR Mode to 4:2:0 might have helped cause it seems to be stable now. I forgot that I had done that after all of the issues forced me into 1080P mode. Been good for 3+ hours now.

Most of my issues came when switching inputs from one source to another... and when using just the Roku... it would even make me restart the PJ after each handshake (between shows).

The HDMI handshake with 4K is a total pain - so much of the equipment across the industry isn't aligned. Very frustrating.

Well knock on wood but changing HDR mode to 4:2:0 seems to have fixed things. It's been good for over 24 hours.

I had audio drop outs and occasional video dropouts with the Roku Ultra on our Vizio set when watch 4K, so I have up on Roku altogether. They need to fix their 4K issues.

Ok I'm at the point of giving up on it. Sometimes it will work flawlessly for several hours and the next time you turn it on it's like constant handshake issues - video/no video, video/no video, etc. I haven't had any issues with audio or video dropouts. I've just had reliability issues.

Sonnie - did you try the Velox cables with the Roku? If they didn't work for you, I doubt they would for me. How's the Nvidia product working?
