John Mulcahy updated REW Linux installer (requires Java 7 or 8) with a new update entry:

V5.19 beta 9 Linux installer (requires Java 7 or Java 8)

V5.19 beta 9 changes:
  • Added input selectors to the Measure dialog
  • Added a soundcard preferences control to set the mapping from REW's output channels to hardware output channels and choose the label to use for them
  • Multichannel output is no longer limited to 8 channels, allowing use of interfaces with higher channel counts on OS X (and probably Linux). The channel mapping control allows any 8 of the available output channels to be selected for use during measurement....

V5.19 beta 10 for Linux

Changes in V5.19 beta 10:

  • 24-bit data is now supported where the JVM makes it available (currently macOS and probably Linux)
  • Added 176.4, 352.8 and 384 kHz to the sample rates allowed for ASIO
  • Allow generator to continue running if ASIO output selection is changed - audio will be interrupted briefly, however
  • Added a dBc axis option for the RTA (dB relative to carrier, mainly used to present data relative to the level of the fundamental tone in the signal)
  • Only stop the...

John Mulcahy updated REW Linux installer (requires Java 7 or 8) with a new update entry:

V5.19 beta 12 for Linux

Small changes in 5.19 beta 12, all being well the last before the 5.19 release.

  • Improved rendering of text on spectrogram graph images when spectrogram floor is filled
  • Small refinement to the IR start detection code
  • Changed delay figure with acoustic timing reference back to using IR start time for limited bandwidth measurements (e.g. subwoofers), retained use of the Estimate IR Delay process otherwise
  • Bug fix: Added checks to try and prevent occasional exception when...

That came up a while ago, can fix it by explicitly enabling opengl by adding

-Dsun.java2d.opengl=True

in the roomeqwizard.vmoptions file in the REW program directory - see this post.

Running 5.20 Beta 2 rises questions:

Attached is an animated image showing some screenshots (Low-distortion Audio-range Oscillator 1kHz 0.64 Vac +/- 0,06% ; RTX6001 (cf. DIY Audio Analyzer with AK5397/AK5394A and AK4490) @96kHz; UbuntuMATE 8.10)
  • 100Hz spaced spurs
    • "appear" after some minutes
    • amplitude varies some db after they have grown to some size
      • is that a measurement artefact?
If so: any chance to remove it?
  • averaged result rises with time
    • -6.9dBFS => 27.1dBFS after 77 min
      • looks to me that the average building has flaws...

All the best for 2019

Is everything in the chain running at the same sample rate, i.e. no OS resampling? A buffer underflow or skipped samples could cause that, if resampling runs out of data eventually. I have a test running but no sign of any issues in the first 15 minutes.

This is after 76 minutes, looks the same as it did after 15 minutes. I think what you are seeing must be due to interruptions in the audio data getting to REW or something suspending REW processing long enough for a block to be skipped.

Thanks for looking at it!

Was that on Windows?
The reported behaviour was on Ubuntu.
I think what you are seeing must be due to interruptions in the audio data getting to REW or something suspending REW processing long enough for a block to be skipped.
hmmm...
There are two input devices under Ubuntu: "default [default]" and "R20 [plughw:1.0].
To avoid the "default" low pass, I did choose "R20" - could that be a problem...?
Anything else in Ubuntu that might cause interruptions or so...?

Happy new year!

I tested on Windows and macOS, I don't have a Linux test system but the REW code is the same for all. After starting the RTA wait long enough for the RTA length to be filled (about 11 seconds at 96k) then reset the averaging.

Edit: I have changed the behaviour for the next beta so that after starting the RTA or changing the FFT length averaging does not begin until 2 full FFT lengths of data have been received, to save having to use the reset averaging button to clear out the effects of the partially filled data buffer.

Hello Sir,

I am getting the following error when trying to install on my linux mint 19.1 machine:

gzip: sfx_archive.tar.gz: not in gzip format

Any idea how to fix this? Thank you very much for your great work :)
