Hi
I am trying to run a measurement sweep from a file. I generate the measurement sweep using the generator, I can read it in Audacity and play it from there, all looks and sounds good including the timing reference chirp. When I try to play it back in the measurement module, however, it sticks "waiting for timing reference". Any suggestions? I am running 5.20.3.

Thanks

The measurement module doesn't play the file, it just uses it to determine the sweep parameters. The file gets played back on the system you want to measure. If the computer can send audio to the system directly just use REW as the playback source, no need for a file.

Following up on this, I am trying to export a file, modify it in Audacity to EQ the sweep, export it to WAV then play it back. REW doesn't seem to like the REW file, I assume because there are some parameters that are lost in this process. Is there another way to EQ the sweep so it is not constant output?

The sweep file you load into REW is just used to work out the sweep setting (length, frequency range etc) and make an image of the waveform, it isn't used when making the measurement so you can load the unmodified file in REW and use the modified file for playback. The first couple of dozen samples in the file have settings encoded in their least significant bits, which is why REW isn't happy if those get modified, but it makes no difference when playing the file back.

When I played around with negative measurement delays, playing back a file created by REW, but with silence samples cut out, at first REW allowed me to take measurements. But then he began to give out a message that the file was not created in REW. Even when I cut the samples before the main sweep and pasted after it, REW still considered that the file was not created in REW, and did not allow me to take a measurement. In Audasity, I chose to save as wav 48 kHz signed 16-bit PCM.

Aaa. I forgot I used to do that. Behold, the head is forgetful. Thank you.
