Hi guys,

I am looking at getting an outdoor patio TV.

Do you have any recommendations?

Typically, we don't use the regular TV we use in the house since outdoor specific TV's are more situated to handle outdoor elements, right?

Any suggestions?

I wouldn't mind knowing myself. I have an HDMI cable and outdoor power receptacle run out onto the front porch of our cabin. I want to get a small 37-40" to mount outside under the porch in that corner. I've not seen any reasonably priced, so I may end up mounting a regular model and getting a cover for it.

I did some research and there is Sunbrite as well as Skyvue and various weatherized Samsung models but they are too expensive.

Best thing would be to get a regular TV and then get a cover as you mentioned Sonnie.

See link here for tvshield..

I may end up getting this tvshield version.. Not sure if folks here have had any experience with tvshield or weatherized TVs..

Or, I may just get the cheapest budget TV and use it till it malfunctions and then just dispose of it and get another cheap model. lol. :)

Thanks for the details. Glad you are enjoying your Sunbrite. I did look but they are very costly. Guess, due to all the things they have to do to ensure the TV works outside with all the elements without any issues. :)

A regular indoor TV is a bad idea.... You need a TV that has the specs to deal with heat and cold. And the nits you need to view outdoors. If you use a regular indoor TV, it may last a year or two but eventually it will succumb to the Temps.

Sunbrite is one of the leaders in outdoor TV. They have various models and the price varies based on Nits required based on how much sun the display has and size.

I have been very happy with this 43 inch model. And I calibrate all my TVs and with the higher nits, I was so happy with the color I did not even mess with a calibration. Buy a Sunbrite. If you use an indoor TV, just plan on replacing every few years or carrying outside like I did before buying this one.

Here is Amazon link to 43 inch I have. They have various other models and sizes on their website

Where I'll place mine is shaded all day, and being a cabin, it's as colder and hotter inside the cabin most of the time when we ain't there. I can buy 7-8 units for the price of that one and I bet I get several years out of it. I'll take my chances before I spend $2800 on a display... ouch! Poor redneck here... can't afford that much for a part time TV.

Totally understand. FWIW the full shade version is Veranda for $1,499 which of course is still more than a regular TV for obvious reasons.

If your cabin and outside are similar temps, will have issues with condensation and electronics in both. But at least no rain or snow inside. :) And of course the big issue is water/condensation and not touching a plugged in set which is just not good and can't recommend.

There are a few other outdoor TV manufactureres but when I checked last, prices were similar as they all build waterproof cases, include fans, heater, etc..

Another and safer option is to carry a TV outside when you want to use it then store it inside. Did that for years. I also have put one inside against a window if your patio has one and used RF or IP control of source from outside.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info BJB. Yes, Sunbrite is the ideal brand for outdoor TV but as with Sonnie, the units are just too pricey. I understand the reasoning but I just don't have the money.. Carrying from within and outside maybe an option as well as using a tvshield possibly. Thanks again. :)

We use Sunbrite regularly and recommend them. All the Subrite models are year-round weatherproof, the difference between them is mainly the screen - brightness which determines how suitable they are for sunlight vs shade, glare reduction, that sort of thing. Regardless, all three lines are brighter than your typical indoor TV.
All models have a sealed device bay with enough room for a media streamer (ie Roku) or HDMI extender. However that bay isn't ventilated so be careful as some of those devices can get pretty warm.
Upper 2 model lines also include integrated HDBT receiver. Works well and is very convenient but HDMI extender technology is improving pretty regularly so it's going to be out of date pretty quickly.
