John Mulcahy updated REW Windows 64-bit installer with a new update entry:

REW V5.20 beta 23 Windows 64-bit installer

V5.20 beta 23 changes:

  • Added an option to use CRLF as end of line when exporting measurements as text on macOS or Linux so the files have better compatibility with Windows applications
  • Bug fix: The SPL measurement timing offset was also being applied to impedance measurements
  • Bug fix: Prevent the frequency bands stripe text labels overwriting each other on narrow graphs
  • Bug fix: Do not colour the frequency bands stripe in captured images if monochrome option selected...

John Mulcahy updated REW Windows 64-bit installer with a new update entry:

REW V5.20 beta 24 Windows 64-bit installer

Changes in V5.20 beta 24:
  • Added 1/A and 1/B as trace arithmetic operations - results will only be valid for measurements made over the full frequency range
  • Allow soundcard cal files for the Default output device (using the default device is not recommended)
  • Allow 2 decimal places for the impedance measurement sense resistor value
  • Use scientific notation for distortion percentages below 0.001% in the distortion graph legend
  • Bug fix: Mic cal file entries were not created...

John Mulcahy updated REW Windows 64-bit installer with a new update entry:

REW V5.20 beta 25 Windows 64-bit installer

Changes in beta 25:
  • Added shelf filters with adjustable Q for the Generic and miniDSP equalisers. Use Q = 0.7071 for the maximum monotonic shelf slope.
  • Change text colour for graph image comments on the graph depending on the graph background
  • Added an SPL figure to the Measure dialog level check result
  • When the ASIO secondary output is enabled select an output other than the primary output
  • When filter numbers are shown above the EQ window filter adjust graph only show...

John Mulcahy updated REW Windows 64-bit installer with a new update entry:

REW V5.20 beta 26 Windows 64-bit installer

Changes in V5.20 beta 26:
  • Allow the default audio input to be SPL calibrated
  • Show phase trace in a different hue to the SPL trace and draw it dotted to better distinguish it from the SPL trace
  • Added options in the waterfall graph controls to show or hide the time axis labels, settings label and colour bar
  • Upgraded to install4j V8 - should fix the problem with window managers and similar applications on macOS
  • Mac installers from this point onwards are notarized...

Java doesn't seem to like that interface for some reason. Could try a different sample rate, otherwise there might be some issue with the soundcard drivers.

John Mulcahy updated REW Windows 64-bit installer with a new update entry:

REW V5.20 beta 27 Windows 64-bit installer

Changes in V5.20 beta 27:
  • Adjusted fractional octave smoothing to be a little closer to a power average for larger octave fractions
  • Extended RTA THD figure to include harmonics up to the 50th
  • Added a Higher Harmonic Distortion figure to the RTA showing the contribution of the 10th and higher harmonics
  • RTA peak trace now reflects the highest levels of each block processed rather than the highest level of the averaged trace
  • Set default RTA window to Hann
  • Use the...

Thank you very much! I am so stupid that I damaged my tweeter with white noise! I was not in the room! Door closed! An I raised the level to 85 dB and my tweeter is now in paradies. :-)
I wonder if a warning might be useful! ?

Sorry to hear that, Ralf. White noise isn't recommended for measurement, but I'll add notes to the signal generator help to emphasise that.

Java 8, which is still the version anyone visiting java.com will get, will be supported until at least September 2023. The most recent update was 3 weeks ago. If you do not wish to install Java 8 REW will download a private Java 8 JRE for its own use only.

I encountered an issue trying to save a measurement, after exporting EQ and biquads.
That's actually an error in the Java runtime rather than in REW. Do you remember exactly what you did just before the error? Looks like it might have been some action with the mouse?

I had just taken a measurement, went to EQ, created an EQ, exported biquad, then clicked to do another measurement. Nothing crashed, I could click away the dialog and continue. No other issue seen.

John Mulcahy updated REW Windows 64-bit installer with a new update entry:

REW V5.20 beta 30 Windows 64-bit installer

Changes in V5.20 beta 30:
  • Added options to step in frequency or level to the Stepped Sine dialog
  • Added a stability test for the stepped sine measurement to optimise speed
  • Added a distortion threshold beyond which stepped sine measurements will be stopped. Distortion must drop below the threshold to arm it.
  • Made the stepped sine dialog non-modal so RTA window remains accessible for graph adjustments, but RTA controls are disabled to avoid changes that would interfere with...

John Mulcahy updated REW Windows 64-bit installer with a new update entry:

REW V5.20 beta 32 Windows 64-bit installer

Changes in V5.20 beta 32:
  • Bug fix: Alignment tool aligned copy had the delay applied with the wrong sign
  • Bug fix: Delays in the comments for the Alignment tool aligned sum measurement had the wrong sign
  • Bug fix: Ohms axis could become selected for SPL measurements on the SPL & Phase graph when there was a mix of SPL and impedance measurements
  • Bug fix: Limits dialog was not working properly for new axis types

I love your work, keep it up! Here are a couple of feature requests that I (and hopefully others) might find useful:

1. With a normal measurement, it is easy to select the input channel in the measurement dialog, which is very convenient when multiple mics are used. However, for something like spatial averaging, it's easier to use the RTA with a bunch of averaging. It would be really handy if the input channel could be selected directly in the RTA measurement dialog, instead of having to go back to preferences.
2. The mic calibration feature is great. However, it would be nice if the calibration value were visible / accessible / editable, at least to make sure the mic sensitivity remained constant over time.
3. It would be nice to be able to smooth RTA data inside the RTA window. For example, collect the RTA data at 1/24th octave, but display it at 1/6th octave. Simply running the RTA at 1/6th octave doesn't look nearly as nice. As a workaround, I've been exporting the data to the main measurement window and smoothing it there, but that requires a few extra steps.
4. An invert button for the generator would be handy. That would allow L only, L+R (or LR 0), R only, and L-R (or LR 180) signals to be generated in real time.
5. Expand the generator to make other channels over SPDIF/HDMI. For example, it would be very convenient to generate a surround or LFE signals for testing multichannel systems.

Thanks for listening!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll add them to my (rather lengthy :)) todo list. The data offset resulting from a mic calibration can be viewed on the Info panel for a measurement.

John Mulcahy updated REW Windows 64-bit installer with a new update entry:

REW V5.20 beta 33 Windows 64-bit installer

Changes in V5.20 beta 33:
  • When multiple measurements are loaded load them as a set then select the last rather than adding and selecting each individually. This speeds up loading by not triggering calculations that may be required when a measurement is selected, for example generating a spectrogram when on the Spectrogram graph page
  • Suppress low quality RT60 decay results
  • Bug fix: Dragging wav files onto the RTA for processing was not working
  • Bug fix: Loading a file with...

Hi, John.
I just installed the new 64-bit version after a long use of 5.19 beta 8.
I'm missing ASIO options in the Preferences menu which allowed me to measure 7 speakers separately.
Am I missing something?
