Im not sure if this is the correct forum to post in so please feel free to move it to the correct one.. I have a Yamaha RX-A3060 and I find YPAO does a decent job on the room correction with the main speakers but not so much with the sub. I copied the YPAO results into the manual setup and tweeked the bass by my ears to get some of that midbass slam back. I was going to get another to try and even out the bass response. I have REW measurements I can supply. What minidsp unit would I need to correct my bass response? I have gallery pics up for the system I'm talking about.

While you could probably do pretty well with PEQ filters for the subs, I would still consider getting a DDRC series unit with Dirac Live and move away from YPAO. I've had the Yamaha CX processor and there's really not much of a comparison between YPAO and DL.

I would also get another sub to help out... make the bass more effortless with the extra headroom... and I love spending other folks money. :spend:

Well that would depend on the DDRC you choose. You could just get a two-channel version, run Dirac on it, then run YPAO on top of Dirac for all your other speakers. Depending on your connections... check out minidsp.com and look at those DDRC units to determine which you prefer.

I have a Yamaha RX-A3040 with dual JTR 118HT subs and did the same manual setup changes as you and wasn't pleased with the results. I purchased the miniDSP 2x4HD just to EQ the subs, followed the steps in the REW/miniDSP video below and I'm very happy with the results. Dirac probably does a better job (and may be easier), but if you're on a tight budget, the 2x4HD is cheaper and does a great job. Just another option.

There are a lot of users with that same setup on their subs + the 2x4HD. You can do quite a bit with it... and you probably won't have as much to adjust when you another sub. Then YPAO doesn't have to do much on the bottom end either.

Did you mean to say the cheaper alternative is miniDSP 2x4 without the HD designation?

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I meant that the miniDSP 2x4HD is cheaper than the miniDSP DDRC models that have Dirac. Also, the 2x4HD can be upgraded to Dirac at a later time if you so desire. I'm not trying to talk you out of the DDRC models, just mentioning that there are other miniDSP choices if DDRC is out of your price range right now.

If you are deciding between the 2x4 and the HD model, AustinJerry has a section in his MiniDSP 2x4 Set-Up Guide called "Deciding which MiniDSP 2x4 is appropriate for your setup". It compares the 2x4 with the HD model. It might help with your decision.

Thanks. I was going to really cheap out and just get the mIniDSP but I started watching the Youtube and it seems to gave a serious limitation in the ability to extend delays beyond a certain time which is needed in order to calibrate subwoofers.
Im going with the miniDSP4HD but its expensive here in Canada, $450. What you have is listed near $1200.

I found a seller on Ebay that is selling them for $194. US . Even with duty, shipping, and the exchange rate, it cost me $335.00 Cdn. That's a substantial saving. I bought one.

I bought the MiniDSP 2x4HD and used REW for my bass management and couldn’t be happier. There are several videos out to help you with the setup. I have a Yamaha A770 with 2 Klipsch subs and full surround. Take a look at this video it helped me.

For future reference you can get the miniDSP4HD much cheaper (C$311) at solen.ca but you should consider the miniDSPbal2X4, which is C$153, for subwoofer use.

You do not need the hd version for subs. Yes it has more PeQ slots but in my opinion the 6 you get with the 2x4 are fine. As for delay. The non hd give you just over 8 ft of delay. What that means is that as long as any one sub is not greater then 8 ft from the mlp your golden. I'm running 4 subs using the 2x4. It works great.

I'm going to pass on the second sub this year as I only have one seating area in the basement as you can see from my gallery. I still expect to hear a big improvement in bass response with the minidsp. I'm also looking for atmos speakers to compliment my PSB setup.

Your point is taken. I should have qualified my statement. So to correct. Most applications for subs do not require that delay. I was trying(badly) to point to a possible cost savings. For me I would have preffered the hd version. Just more options. The O. P lives as I do in Canada so my advice was geared accordingly. The standard 2x4 is $163 or hd for $311 last I checked. For a newbie to rew add in the umik at I think 130, then 13% tax and your talking an big difference in cost that might not be needed.
I'm thrilled with what the mini 2x4 did for my sound. Throw xt32 on top of that and your golden.

I have both a Minidsp 2x4 and Minidsp 2x4HD for my 5 Sub setup. I prefer the 2x4HD because you can have up to 4 sub configs stored and flip between them, plus greater than 7.2 msec delays if required. I purchased both from Solen Canada.

Have used Steve's REW technique mentioned in the previous post with good results. Steve has numerous excellent videos on his Home Theater Gurus channel to get the most out of your setup.

I am currently using MSO (Multi-Sub Optimizer) freeware, it does have a bit of a learning curve but does an excellent job balancing the seat to seat variance. Here are my results from MSO, equalized flat at 78db using 3 PEQ per subwoofer..
