Integra Home Theater
(May 4, 2017) Integra Home Theater, a subdivision of Onkyo geared towards the custom installer, has officially announced its first new product of 2017. The DTM-7 Network Stereo Receiver is priced right (MSRP $650 US / $850 CAD) and loaded with quite a bit of next-gen audio and connectivity options.

The video landscape has rapidly evolved over the last year, effectively rendering some previously “future proof” HDMI 2.0 capable gear as outdated. Keeping with current trends, the DTM-7 ships with onboard support for the latest HDR platforms, including Dolby Vision, Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), and HDR10. Of course, its HDMI capabilities also support 4K/60Hz, Wide Color Gamut and HDCP 2.2 copy protection. All totaled, the DTM-7 carries 4 HDMI inputs and a lone HDMI output.

On the audio front, the DTM-7 relies on an AKM AK4438 384 kHz/32-bit high-grade DAC for digital to analog conversion. To help tame circuit noise, Onkyo’s Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) has been incorporated to compare input and output audio signals, filtering pulse noise created during the conversion process for super clean sound. Owners will also enjoy access to Hi-Res audio (up to 192kHz/24-Bit) stored on a home computer, media drive, network attached storage, or a USB memory stick. The receiver carries support for gapless playback of FLAC, WAV, ALAC, and WMA files, in addition to 2.8 or 5.6MHz DSD.

The convenience of streaming music is also offered by the DTM-7, using both onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (Ethernet is also an option). Music can be tapped via AirPlay and a host of streaming services, including Pandora, TuneIn, TIDAL, and Spotify Connect. Integra has included Chromecast built-in, DTS Play-Fi, and FireConnect for wireless multi-room audio streaming, in addition to the Integra Control Pro app for music playback via a handheld device.

The DTM-7 offers generous power considering its price. Integra rates the receiver’s output at 100 Watts per channel (8 Ohms, 1 kHz, 2 Channels) with 40 amps of high instantaneous current. This is a straight two-channel amp.

Because the DTM-7 is a custom install model, it carries various system integration features such as RS232 and IP control with support for two-way communication with various home automation systems. Owners can program two 12-volt triggers to operate home automation items such as a drop down movie screen or curtains.

More information about the DTM-7 (including access to an owner’s manual) is available here.

This looks like a great mid-range A/V receiver. For $650, it offers a lot of features. Nice to see Chromecast capability built-in. Look forward to trying this one out as my Yamaha has now hit 15 years old and is a tad out of date.

I agree... you get Chromecast, DTS: Play-Fi and FireConnect all in one package. If two-channel is what you're looking for, this guy looks like a sure shot buy!

I still like a two channel for my office. That's how I use my current Yamaha (although it is a 5.1). Just really missing the network features that are more common now.

The modern conveniences of streaming to an AVR (but also having built-in streaming services) are sensational... the Hi-Res compatibility doesn't either. This particular model has a nice price point :T

Todd, please check the specs on the DTM7 as you wrote ....."TX-NR676 Key Specifications - Weight: 28.7 lbs Dimensions: 17 1/8" W x 6 7/8" H x 14 13/16" D" ...these appear to be for another unit, unless I'm mistaken. Not sure of the other specs. Secondly, I see no reviews from any one that has purchased one of these on the web. I'm considering the DTM 7 or a Yamaha 602 or 803. Do you have a recommendation? Why the web silence on the DTM 7??? Thanks.

Hey @Naperville: those specs certainly don't align with what's on Integra's website, do they? They would have been pulled from the initial PR materials issued to writers from Integra. So, perhaps they had an error or oversight on their end when it was announced.

Correct specs are:

17 1/8" x 5 7/8" x 12 15/16"
18.7 lbs

Everything else appears to be correct. Great eyes!

The DTM 7 is definitely more angled to the custom install market, as are all Integra badged products. I believe its direct consumer equivalent is the Onkyo TX-8270. I think the biggest differentiating factor would be that the Onkyo version lacks some home integration features that installers would find helpful for automation, etc. And that's really the reason Integra products are reviewed less (because that brand's focus is appeal to custom market).

The Yamaha 803 is probably the best comparative Yamaha model to the DTM 7 / TX-8270. It's definitely much more expensive (the TX-8270 is on sale right now). The Onkyo has a slightly better S/N spec (100 dB vs 106 dB). It also has DTS Play-Fi and Chromcast-built in. Those are two nice streaming options (alternatively, the Yamaha is Alexa voice command compatible and can be used to play Sirius XM radio).

Sound quality-wise, I'm guessing both would sound relatively similar... and both companies are known for delivering good power. Yamaha is especially noteworthy for providing some beef behind its output specs.

What kind of system are you driving?
