I'm using JRiver as my playback source on my HTPC and I want to take measurements for some filter design in @Focus Fidelity.
Currently I'm using JRiver's inbuilt room correction to compensate for distance and level differences between my L/R speakers (I sit off center).

Should I take my REW measurements with either, none, or both of those settings? I can measure without JRiver in the chain at all, if that's the right thing to do.
I'm assuming that the distance setting should be off, but will the filter generation process compensate for the level difference that I introduce by being close to one speaker than the other?

Thanks

Hi,

Because REW export aligns all the measured impulses to 1 second the filter design software is not able to determine the true timing differences between the left and right channels.
Therefore you should continue to use the distance setting in JRiver since you do have a significant difference in distance between left and right channels.
If the measurements did contain the relative timing of left and right channels then the filter design software would correct for that.
It should not be required to use the level balance in JRiver anymore, the correction filter will compensate for this.
You should disable both settings when doing the measurements if you are using JRiver, I would suggest doing the measurements without JRiver in the signal path.

You've probably found them already but if not instructions for performing measurements with REW can be found here https://www.focusfidelity.com/REWInstructions.pdf

Kind Regards,

David
