I ran REW_windows_5_18.exe (MD5 2afc9de36a2cea502c17d9fd914592cc) through several online virus scanners. Are these merely false positives? Some of them sound worse than exe-packers and application-bundles. I scanned a few other recent REW installers and got similar results.

Jotti.org:
VBA32: BScope.Adware.Spigot

VirusTotal.com:
Jiangmin: Trojan.Generic.ayiwl
TrendMicro-HouseCall: Suspicious_GEN.F47V0227
Zillya: Downloader.Banload.Win32.80503

VirSCAN.org:
jiangmin: Trojan.Generic.ayiwl
fprot: W32/Felix:EX:001!Eldorado

Yes, either false positives or virus scanners using scary terminology to describe the normal behaviour of installers. Unfortunately it is in the interests of the scanner providers to make people think they have been protected from something, even when there is nothing there. That specific file has had 80,000 downloads and the worst thing it has infected anyone with is over-enthusiasm for room measurement. :)
