CEDIA 2018: JVC Reveals US Pricing, Publicly Demos Its New 4K Projector Lineup

(September 6, 2018) JVC held a pre-show press conference this morning at CEDIA 2018 in San Diego, revealing US pricing details for its new stable of true 4K D-ILA lamp based projectors and the world’s first 8K eShift capable projector.

The projectors’ model numbers mirror those discussed last week at the company’s IFA 2018 European reveal (covered here), however the pricing is significantly lower than we projected based on Euro to US Dollar conversion rates. US pricing is as follows:

  • DLA-NX9/DLA-RS3000 $17,999.95
  • DLA-NX7/DLA-RS2000 $7,999.95
  • DLA-NX5/DLA-RS1000 $5,999.95

All three projectors will be available at the end of October 2018.

JVC says it plans to continue selling at least one of its 2017 4K eShift models at a significantly reduced price. In addition, its flagship DLA-RS4500 4K laser projector will continue to ship without a 2018 refresh.

The DLA-NX9 was highlighted during an impressive demo session. The $18,000 projector features the same 100mm all glass lens with 16 groups and 18 elements found on the RS4500, with the capability of pixel shifting to deliver some 35,000,000 – yes, million – visible pixels for 8K performance. It’s also capable of covering 100% of the DCI/P3 color space with HDR10 and HLG compatibility, and sports a native contrast ratio of 100,000:1.

Image quality during the presentation of both 8K eShift and 4K image reproduction was nothing short of excellent, highlighted by JVC’s legendary black level performance, eye-popping color, and impressive High Dynamic Range. The 8K eShift material was loaded with noticeable detail, making it easy to see how 8K eShift as utility for large screen applications. The presentation, as compared to that of Sony's $35,000 VW995ES, was stunningly impressive, highlighted by a natural cinematic feel.

This news from JVC and Sony has me feeling glad that I haven't yet pulled the trigger on a 4K Projector..I now have better options.

The X7 looked great in the demo room... they didn't have the X5 running... but I'd hazard to guess that JVC's two new sub-10K projectors are the ones to beat in the market.
