Catching Up with Roon: CEO Enno Vandermeer to Appear on Qobuz Live, Plus Nucleus Black Friday Deal

full?d=1606921615.png

(December 2, 2020) Here's a couple of interesting quick-hit news items involving Roon. First, Roon's CEO, Enno Vandermeer, is joining Qobuz Live tomorrow (December 3, 2020) at 4:00pm EST. Qobuz Live streams on Qobuz's Facebook page (click here to set a reminder). According to Qobuz, Vandermeer will lead a discussion diving deep into Roon's feature set, including its "Nucleus and the extensive DSP, oversampling and unique radio function." He'll also discuss Roon's diverse team and future directions. Tune in and you can win a FREE six-month subscription to Qobuz and Roon! In other words, gain some knowledge and potentially win a sweet prize!

Second, Roon is offering a Black Friday deal on its Nucleus and Nucleus Plus Core systems. While pricing on these physical hardware options still begins at $1,459 and $2,559, respectively, Roon is offering one free year of TIDAL and one free year of Roon with a purchase. That roughly equates to a $360-ish savings, if my math is correct. To purchase a Nucleus Core device and take advantage of this offer, click here.

I am a huge Roon fan, but I just don't see this Nucleus being a bargain, not even with the freebies thrown in.

I've toyed around with the idea of snagging one, but the price is definitely steep. NAD has something similar that was on sale (BlackFriday) for $699. Some of the user reviews were off-putting, though.

I think I'm going to stick with streaming and physical disc.

The Intel NUC with Roon ROCK is the ticket IMO... especially if you can locate it in another room where the only connection is the network cable. There is no way for it create any weak link in your chain. And if you get an i7 with 16GB memory, a fast SSD and then a storage SSD... I would think you'd be way ahead of the Nucleus. There are plenty of high-end users in the Roon forum that think so.

I spent $640 on mine... and another $200 would have gotten me the i7 with a lot more space, but I just didn't need it.

That makes my head explode and is exactly why I left the PC/Roon interface. No more bits, just give me a DAP that I control everything with and sounds too cool for school and I am good. Not saying you can't get it rocking, just too much tech for my taste.I have DLNA on my network which works just fine.
