I am building a new computer. It is part of my home audio-video system. I have I think was a front panel audio jack. I want to install this in my new case in the rear. The problem there is nowhere to plug it in as far as I can tell. I believe that the 10 pin double row DuPont 2.54mm connector attached to maybe a sound card? I have a Gigabyte ga-z97x-gaming7 motherboard. Have I figured out the only way to add the Spdif plate? I will need to buy an audio PCIe card then install the new plate. Taking up 2 spots on the back panel of my new computer build. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you in advance. Lemon

Look at page 7 of your users manual... Bottom left of mother board layout sketch label F_AUDIO... I believe your 10 pin may go there... As far as the connectors side, it looks like it would take one on back panel "slot" not connected to any thing but the case, which you have given no hints as to what it is or what it might look like... Or, see page 31 number 12 to use this as a front panel connection... I don't think you need to buy another sound card unless what comes with/on the motherboard, which seems pretty nice, does not meet your audio needs... So, it seems you have the choice of connections on the back or front of the pc... Although, it seems only one optical S/PDIF Out connector on the back set of connectors... Is that 2 S/PDIFs on that photo?

You are correct. I forgot to mention I want to keep the normal audio channels also. The EVGA DG-7 case I am using has some nice front audio options. A headphone jack in front on top of the case. I can install it like normal, leaving the connector unplugged. I won't use the jacks all that often. Over the years I have a few times a year I wish I had the Spdif option. This is just one of the little things I hoped to eliminate building a new computer myself. Thank you for your help. I know there is a way I can have it all () Not ready to settle yet.

Your welcome... I guess if you need more s/pdif capability you could add an nVidia gfx card that has an additional 2 pin audio output and a 2 pin to s/pdif cable... Do all the nVidia gfx cards use two slots of space? I know my 2x1080s do... Anyway, maybe that 2 pin to s/pdif cable would work with that 2 pin SPDIF_O output on your motherboard right next to your 10 pin F_AUDIO header??? Its only 2 pins, what could possibly go wrong ;^)
