Does anyone here have any experience with these speakers for ATMOS?

I am looking for ATMOS speakers for my setup.

Currently using M&K Speakers (S-150, S-250 & SS-150). Unfortunately, they don't make these any more so can't get matching speakers. The ones they do use completely different drivers. So have to look for something else.

Any other suggestions? Would prefer something the go in-ceiling or have a low profile that can be mounted on the ceiling.

Thanks!

I wonder how much of a difference matching the rest of the set for atmos speakers would actually make, if any.
Anyway, I digress. What did you like about the Emotiva when there are so many choices?
One thing I did notice is their sensitivity is lowish. You might benefit from something a bit closer to your M&Ks.

Mainly I was looking for a in-ceiling speaker from a known brand with a decent frequency response and a tweeter that can be aimed at the MLP at a reasonable price.

Quite a difference in price between the Emotiva and Golden Ear. I wonder what would account for that?
There’s really very little gonna come from the atmos channels. Ever try shutting off the center channel with a movie playing? It’s surprising how little comes from the other speakers.

I like your idea of lower frequency extension so the xo can be kept 80hz or below.
The other thing I saw was that your M&Ks are spec’d at 92 dB sensitivity. The emos are just 85 so that’s quite a bit of headroom to give up. The Polks are 90 so much better. The golden ear 89 so still better than the Emotiva ‘s.

I’m also looking to put in Atmos ceiling speakers. Have you considered Monoprice Amber? They have ribbon tweeters like the Vaultas and are much cheaper. Anyone have experience with these?

I don’t but perhaps I can help a little.

Monoprice has another in ceiling speaker reviewed by @Todd Anderson here:

They seem to be similar other than the tweeter used. The Amber’s AMT tweeter notes “Ribbon Tweeter: A ribbon tweeter requires about 90% less excursion than a typical 1" dome tweeter, making it capable of very high acceleration, which means that it is very responsive to musical nuances with less distortion. Ribbon tweeters have a wide horizontal dispersion and a very tight vertical dispersion, thereby increasing the size of the audio "sweet spot".

Of course no actual information is provided with respect to the degrees of dispersion but orientation will clearly make a difference. I can see situations where this could be a positive or negative depending on placement relative to seating or boundaries. The speaker Todd reviewed should not have such considerations.

I installed these 2 weeks ago, and love them. I have them on a separate amp and was curious how much the Atmos speakers were used. I turned off the main amp and had only the Atmos speakers running. There is very little that is produced by them, but what they do is dramatic. On a second note the abs back enclosures don't fit the 15 degree units, so I built some plywood ones. All of my Atmos speakers happen to be directly below the HVAC ductwork and was very loud throughout the house. I had Klipsch RS7 before and I like these much better for Atmos.

I've seen these in person, but have heard them in use. When I talked to Monoprice about reviewing one of their in-ceiling models, one of their lead product designers suggested the Alpha Series (unprompted). I must say, tho, I'm curious about their AMT models.

From all I have red recently, folks are recommending the tilted speakers like the Monoprice Caliber that can be aimed towards the MLP better, over the ones that just have the tweeter that can be aimed. Will see how they perform once I install them.

I was finding the same info. This is why I picked them. The install is the easiest thing I have ever ran into. Hardest part is cutting a round circle not an oval. I am lucky to have a drop ceiling. I replaced the panels with 1/2 inch MDF and used a router. Plywood or fiber would be good as well.

This is generally true... it really depends upon your ceiling height. If you have 8-10ft ceilings, you'll likely find angled high frequencies to be more revealing. The higher your ceilings, the less you'll likely need to aim.

Yes, that makes sense. Thanks!
