To be honest, I thought there was nothing wrong with it. It was simply a bigger guy hitting a smaller guy. He led with his shoulder and from what I remember, only one foot lifted off the ice after the hit. Shouldn't have been a suspension at all. It's a physical sport and players will get hurt, especially if your smaller and you try to turtle up when a bigger guy is going to clobber you.
The officiating this post season has probably been the worst I've seen in many, many years - like maybe the late 80s? Missed calls from referees clearly looking at the play to doubling up penalties that shouldn't be (the phantom call), it's like they're trying to affect the outcome. They're not supposed to affect the outcome. They're just supposed to control the game. If you watched the Tuesday gamer between Winnipeg and Nashville then you saw a doozy! Three of the four goals Winnipeg scored were questionable. One was clearly a kicking motion - no review and not even discussed by the announcers, one was a phantom call - refs throw a player in the box from each team - when it should have clearly been a Nashville power play and I cannot recall what it was about the third goal. There was no clearer display of the league affecting the outcome than that particular game. And did I mention how the rules change once the post season begins?
I also find it a bit ridiculous that the director of player safety is a former goon. Nice job NHL!
