Hardware issues?

I have a Lenovo w520 laptop with Windows 10 installed and a Marantz 8805 prepro. There is no HDMI just a 3.5mm headphone plug and 2- 3.0 USB's. I was told that I could use the 2nd USB with a USB to HDMI adapter to connect the HDMI cable to the Marantz. After messing around for awhile I finally got my computers screen to show on my TV but no sound. Messed around alittle then REW would still not locate the Marantz and only showed L/R but then would play thru theater L/R speakers only, no other speakers were shown. Then tried to use Bluetooth and then REW found the Marantz but no sound and still only L/R speakers come up in REW.

What hardware is required for this to work? Do you have to have HDMI audio on a laptop to find and work all the speakers in my 7.1?

Thank you for the replys. My laptop dosent have the USB-C, it has this one in the pic. I didn't know the display plug could send audio, I thought it would just send video. I will try that and see if that corrects the issue.

I did download the newest update for REW so it should be good to go.
