Hello,
I have an old but still well fonctionning sub B&W PV1 (first gen) that's working fine.
In my home cinema of roughly 20m2 with no backwall (opened to the kitchen), with a use of 90% movie, would you change it for a more modern sub (or 2...) and for which model in a budget of 1000/1500€ ?
Thanks for your ideas and commentaries.

Are you looking for more bass? You mentioned it's working fine.

With no back wall on the room, pressurization of the room is tough, you could very easily spend your budget and not hear a difference.

I'd suggest experimenting a bit with placement of your current sub to see if you can get more impact with it. If you still feel like you're missing out, SVS makes the best budget subs on the market. You could take a look at their special pricing on pairs.

In fact, I'm in search for upgrading my home cinema and it could (have been ?) a possibility but it seems not to be the right one for me because, yeah I'm pretty happy with my current sub and my money should go anywhere else. I'll create another post in the right section but if you can give me your commentaries, please do it:

-Add acoustic treatment (but as I'm in an apartment in location with a window, I need something movable perhaps like this: https://gikacoustics.fr/sound-blocks/ Is it any good ? 600€ the 3 panels
-Change my Denon AV Receiver (used only as Pré-amp) by a real Pré-amp like a Emotiva XMC-2 with Dirac Live 3000€
-Change my set of speakers that are too agressive for me now

Make your choice ! :)

Thanks

I would recommend treating the room first, then look at speakers, and processor last. GIK is a very reputable company, just make sure you're willing to move treatments in and out every time you want to use the theater. If you reach out to GIK they will create a custom plan for you based on your room, your preferences and your budget.

I would suggest that you get a microphone compatible with (R)oom (E)q (W)izzard, like a UMK-1, and take a few reading to "see" what is going on in your room with your kit... And then... I agree with @thrillcat suggestions...

I did it 2 to 3 years ago maybe so I have the files but it's hard to use them and I didn't find a relatively easy way to have infos on the use of the graphs and what should be corrected (by software or acoustic treatment).
I just saw a part of the forum named "Room Acoustics and Treatments" so I'll maybe send my data to them and try to have help to see if I need any treatment or not, and which type.
@ddude003 thx and if you know what data from REW should I send, it would be greatly appreciated :)
