To treat a room below 150Hz is near impossible and very impractical.

Have you wrapped your head around Serkan's Virtual Bass Array filter?

I have (a few times). I don’t run convolution so I haven’t had an opportunity to successfully implement it.

It does address the frequency domain and by proxy the time domain. But passive and active treatments specifically address the decay.

Unless someone in the back skunkworks has been doing A LOT of R&D, I doubt Audyssey has an answer to DL-ART.

They pretty much stopped development 10 years ago when Denon/Marantz purchased the exclusive licence for Audyssey, shutting out other competitors. MQX is just the abilities of the Audyssey installers pro-kit, repackaged for the current series and with a new user interface for the mass market.... nothing new there.

D&M are aware of this, and therefore are opening the window to Dirac....

Dirac have said that if an AVR can do DLBC, then it can do DL-ART.... so there is nothing stopping D&M from providing DL-ART update options in 2024.

In the meantime, Audyssey is a perfectly viable competitor to standard DL, and even to a lesser degree, DLBC.... so it will cover most of the mass market without any trouble.

I expect that DL-ART will be reserved for TOTL hardware, primarily due to its licencing cost.... so Audyssey and MQX will not be under serious pressure for a few years yet.
I agree with this. And while I think DL is better than Audyssey, Audyssey is definitely a very good alternative and perfectly suitable for lots of folks.

The biggest stumbling block for DL is licensing fees… it’s great that Audyssey is still available as a “free” alternative.

I personally like Audyssey MQX better. It provides more flexibility or at least has given me better results than Dirac did.

Is that because of a better UI / Sytem process, or because the system is inherently better....?

ie: do you feel it takes longer to get the best possible results from Dirac or Audyssey?

It takes much longer for Dirac because it’s a “black box” and yields different results among small changes to calibrations. In my case, witb my AVR, I wasn’t able to adjust gains and timings post calibration. That was an AVR limitations.

The new MQX makes things easier because the work is done in REW and yields near exact results of what REW predicts.

The workflow is nicer too because measurements can be rerun individually or excluded all together and FIR filters are then based on REW measurements.

I can get exactly what I’m looking for out of MQX in a single set of measurements RMS averaged from REW in approx 30 minutes.

This is just my experience, so I’m making no claims that Dirac is authoritatively worse but to your point, I’m able to get what I want easier with more flexibility and ease of change.

And I get dynamic EQ which I’m a huge fan of because I run my subs hot and I like to hear my surrounds at lower volumes.

Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows how much ventilation space is required around the RZ50?

I have looked through the manual that I found on the Onkyo site (my RZ50 is meant to arrive tomorrow so don't know what comes in the box) but couldn't find anything about ventilation or placement.

Thank you.

I don’t think that’s a spec that you’re going to find published. You definitely will want some sort of airflow… don’t bury inside a cabinet that’s solid!

What kind of space do you have?

Hello. Thank you for the reply. I have a box that my TV is sitting on that my PS4 currently lives in. It's open from and back and has internal dimensions of 480 mm x 273 mm x 298 mm (WxHxD).

I don't think it's deep enough anyway but was thinking I could extend the base somehow. I was also worried it would be too cramped and not allow enough airflow.

I have an old computer table that my record player and a printer live on, so for the time being I will move the record player down a shelf (printer go somewhere else) and put the Onkyo on the top.

I would like to get a proper cabinet to contain everything and would also need to know what clearance that would need.

Thanks.

ReceivZ50 today, and in the paper work it mentions what the ventilation requirements are, so excellent on that front. I will upload photos of them for anyone else that stumbles upon this thread.

Unfortunately the screen on my device doesn't work.

After tuning it on for the first time I had no way of knowing it was on, other than I could access it via the TV interface, I power cycled everything, checked for firmware updates and hardware reset it a couple of times.

I gave up and sulked for a bit and tried again and the display came on, then after half an hour of listening to music it went off again and none of the above have worked.

Has anyone else had this issue? Very disappointed. I bought this as a replacement of two previous different brand products that were faulty. Lucky me. Third time lucky isn't ringing true.

Thanks.

I have to factory reset every use which defeats the purpose of having it. I got it so I can split my ps5 / series x between my tv or projector. They share the same audio zone speaker set up. After one power cycle if I try to run again I lose video and sound .

amazon 2.1 cables
tried cables included with the consoles too .

no word from onkyo

Not sure why I keep going with onkyo nothing but hdmi issues from every unit I owned .
Wondering if you've found a solution? I have the same problem I believe? When I switch from my Xfinity X1 box to Apple 4K or Xbox, my C1 OLED goes into screen saver mode and the HDMI display on the RZ50 flashes on and off multiple times. I'm currently emailing back and forth with Onkyo trying to troubleshoot the issue but nothing has worked. I have to power the TZ50 on and off to regain a picture from the input selected most times to get anything to work.

I have the Pioneer 505, my cabinet was built for my previous AVR and the 505 is a tighter fit, I was concerned about ventilation, so I bought an AC Infinity USB powered fan, plugged it into the rear USB, and placed it behind the AVR. I cannot hear it when it's on the low speed and the AVR stays cool.
