I downloaded these files and I had to convert to WAV. Then I tried to import the WAV files but the files need to be created with the newest version with REW. Would you please make the WAV files with the new version of REW?

Thanks

Why did you need to convert to WAV? You won't get Atmos that way, they need to remain as DD+ Atmos files. The only file you load into REW is the existing WAV file that's included, and you don't Import it, you select Playback From File in the Measure window and load it there, then play back the Atmos files external to REW.

In case it's still not clear how to use these files, see the Measuring with file playback help.

I have an HDMI connection from my laptop to my sound system when using REW, and I use ASIO4ALL. To permit playback of the Atmos files from my laptop, I just go into the ASIO Control Panel (via REW Preferences) and disable the sound system connection. Then file playback using the Movies & TV app or Windows Media Player works fine.

Thank you for letting me know how to do this since I thought I had to import the Atmos files.

I just find 256k to be precice enough and when measuring at higher volumes for example when doing compression tests, these super long sweeps can be annoying. But if creating new ones is too much work it's not a big deal. I'm glad that I can finally measure my ceiling speakers in REW.

Not a problem, I can create them, I was just curious.

If you've previously downloaded sweeps, you should download new ones. Here are new 1M sweeps:
and here are new 256k sweeps:

With the previous versions, I foolishly assumed the auto-generated Dolby dialog normalization metadata value would be the same for all files, since the content was the same, just on different channels. Bad assumption; it turns out dialnorm varied across the files, so absolute level for the sweeps was not consistent. I figured out a way to make them all the same, hence the new versions.

This is great work and I cannot thank you enough. I manually calibrate my surround system as I dislike what Audyssey does to it and I finally now have proper frequency response from my ceiling speakers as well. Somehow it even helped me time align the height speakers. The acoustic timing reference chirp seems to be at the exact same point for all sweeps.

I'm new to this whole REW thing and I haven't used a forum in years, but I tried these ceiling sweeps and I've not been successful getting them to play. I use a Macbook to use REW so maybe that is part of the issue. When I try to get a measurement the file seems to load ok. It seem to start the measurement but then says it's waiting for a timing reference. I'm lost! What did I over look this time??

I finally got it figured out. Thanks for the files and the help!
I actually read the entire thread and the answer was within. Someday, I may learn to read the instructions.

Thank you, thothsong

You don't actually play them through REW, you need to play them externally. You only load the sweep file into REW so it knows what to expect. As per Measuring with file playback.

I have a Marantz 7703 Preamp. I setup my Mackbook Pro with the mic and HDMI connection for use with REW and the measurement sweeps acquired in this thread. I performed several measurements to see if everything was working correctly prior to actually quieting everything down to seriously take measurements. I found that I could never really get a height channel to output sound. The sweeps ran every time but the Height sound came from the wrong speakers. (That is a different speaker than the label on the sweep file.) The Marantz displayed Multi Channel In but not Dolby Atmos.
Am I missing something?? Has anyone else found this issue??

I don't have a Mac, but from what little I've googled, it sounds like Macbook Pros don't support bitstream output of DD+ over HDMI, they can only decode to LPCM for output? Do you have some other source device that you can use for playback?

Thanks again, thothsong
When I use the MacBook Pro to send any 7.1 Channel test tone output through REW, it works perfectly but as you say, when using the DD signal it plays the height sweeps wherever it feels like it. I'll see about an alternative!

For the sake of perfection since these are 48kHz samples, can you produce 0 to 24,000Hz sweeps if it is not a big burden for you? They could be any length. I am OK even with 128k.

Many thanks

hi thothsong, was hoping you might know how to get test sweeps to front high speakers in a std 7.1 setup (AVR is not atmos capable)? Tried all of yours and they only play on LR or SR/SL using VLC configured in bitstream over HDMI. thanks
