I can't recall ever having waited for a Super Bowl or Black Friday type sale in the past. That's just not my personality. If I want or need something, I just go get it.

Maybe I'm growing up?

Anyway, I'm looking to replace my 43" Sony XBR x830c display in the living room. The display itself is fine, but the Android operating system has rendered everything in the TV itself nearly unusable, and I still use the tuner for OTA viewing. It's gotten annoying enough that I'm ready to find a new Wheel of Fortune machine.

I'm looking at the LG OLED displays, and I'm looking at using up a bunch of Best Buy Rewards points I have accumulated this year. I don't need anything bigger than the 55" for the Wheel, and I have a theater room with projector, so I don't do any real movie-watching on it. But I am a nerd, and I want to get a good one. My (grown-up) budget is being (grown-up) limited to around the B8's current price, but I'm hoping that sales might bring the C8 into my range.

When do Super Bowl Sales normally start to show up? How much are the typical discounts? What is Best Buy's price guarantee. Any experiences you want to report on the LG OLED line? Should I be looking at something else?

Nobody say Sony. I'm too frustrated with them right now. Maybe someday. Not today.

Thanks!

You need to grow up and look at Sony.

I had no idea there was such a thing as "Super Bowl" sales events. That's a new one for me.

It does seem like I've seen a lot more ads for OLED lately... and prices have sure come down on those.

I'll have to hang on to my Vizio for several more years... OLED should be almost free by then.

If they would release an update to fix the OS on my current TV I might. They've released about 3 updates since I started having issues, but the last 5+ updates have done nothing except add/remove different Sony "store" apps. :)

Super Bowl Sales have begun (now that CES is over).

I completely changed gears at the store this weekend and shifted from the LG OLED to a 65" Samsung Q6FN QLED.

Why? This is going to sound like the lamest reason ever, but it's the little things. The LG has no on-screen channel guide for my OTA content.

Okay, that was the final dealbreaker. The other reasons were A) brightness, as this is in my great room which has a ton of natural light during the day; and B) cost, I was able to get a 65" instead of a 55" and still saved a couple hundred bucks.

Plus, I felt the operating system in general on the Samsung was easier to get around, I like the minimalist remote - it is still quick to do everything I need to do - and I just thought it would be the better deal. It doesn't have the deep blacks of the LG, but I'm pretty sure that once I calibrate it, it will look far beyond "adequate".

Sounds like a great choice for your needs.. Rtings.com also shows good test results with this display at https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q6fn-q6f-q6-2018
Enjoy!

Interesting, @thrillcat... because those LG Super Bowl sales on OLEDs give some serious price drops!

I'd agree, you'll be able to get a really nice picture out of the Samsung. Obviously, black levels won't be quite as good, nor will off angle viewing. But, if functionality trumps those things, I say go for the functionality!
