(July 19, 2018) Audirvana Plus has long been heralded as one of the easiest (not to mention, cheapest) ways to transform a Mac computer into a serious Hi-Fi audio machine. The software, which takes the place of Apple’s iTunes, can be used in conjunction with an outboard USB DAC or Network Player (UPnP/DLNA) to open up a world of better sound and increased support for various audio formats. Of course, the primary limitation being rather obvious: it's designed for macOS environments. However, as of today, that’s no longer the case, as Audirvana has officially launched a full version of its “Plus” software for Windows 10 PCs.

“After abandoning Windows for several years, I have to admit that I rediscovered this operating system with great pleasure to create this new product,” explains Damien Plisson, software creator. “I always keep in mind the same objective as for the Mac version—to obtain the best possible sound quality.”

Audirvana impacts sound playback in two substantial ways. First, it significantly shortens the audio signal path which removes noise and electromagnetic interferences. Second, it relies upon specialized pre-DAC digital processing algorithms that Audirvana claims are “superior” to those found in typical DAC chips. Add to that support for a number audio plugins, the ability to play a wide range of audio files (including non-iTunes supported files like FLAC, WavPack, APE, and Cue Sheets), MQA Hi-Res Audio decoding, and integration with Hi-Res streaming services such as TIDAL, HRA-Streaming, and Qobuz, and the software’s utility is more than apparent.

The Windows 10 version of Audirvana Plus offers several advances over the Mac’s current 3.2 version. PC owners will enjoy a new intuitive interface, a “View by Artists” sorting feature, a new mini-player, ASIO and WASAPI playback modes, and direct selection of an audio device on the main interface.

Audrivana is currently offering Windows 10 users a free 15-day trial version of the software. Those that wish to purchase should expect to pay $74.00. For more information, including a link to the free software download, click here.

I have used Audirvana Plus for quite a while now on my MacBooks and like it a lot... Nice to see it available on the Windoz platform...

Have either of you done listening tests with headphones connected direct to your computer (vs USB out to DAC/headphone amp)? Tried comparisons with streaming to a DLNA device?

Never used it to stream to DLNA nor done any kind of comparison in any A/B way. I originally bought it because it was better than iTunes for playing music if your source files included FLAC Of many different sampling frequencies.

I have not used USB only HDMI and LAN streaming (UPnP/DLNA) DSD 192 to a DAC without headphones as I feel my stereo system sounds better than the wireless Bose headphones I have... I am impressed with the quality of sound that Audirvana presents and the flexibility to upsample/downsample and process on the fly... And of course, Tidal HiFi sounds awesome...

In addition, I think the onboard dacs/sound cards that are to be found in most lappys and desksides/tops do not hold a candle to a quality outboard DAC...
