(May 23, 2018) Marantz recently revealed two new AV receiver options. The NR1609 and NR1509 are sleek and slim, standing a mere 4.1” tall, offering space conscious buyers multichannel performance paired with usability conveniences for true lifestyle functionality.

Headlining the duo is the NR1609 ($749), which boasts 50 Watts of power (8-ohm, 20Hz – 20kHz, 0.08% THD, 2 channel driven) across 7-channels of output, with performance enhanced by Marantz’s Hyper Dynamic Amplification Module (HDAM) circuitry. In addition to Hi-Res audio compatibility with FLAC, AIFF, and WAV files (up to 24-bit/192kHz) and DSD (2.8MHz and 5.6MHz), the NR1609 can decode Dolby Atmos and DTS:X immersive sound content. In addition, legacy codecs can be up-mixed for an immersive-like experience using DTS Virtual:X.

Video performance starts with eight HDMI inputs (seven rear, one front) and a single output with Audio Return Channel (ARC) functionality. Every HDMI input offers full 4K 60Hz video functionality and compatibility with popular High Dynamic Range formats such as Dolby Vision, HLG, and HDR10. Not surprisingly, streaming 4K video with HDCP 2.2 is also supported, along with 4:4:4 color sub-sampling and BT. 2020 color passthrough.

The less expensive NR1509 ($549) also offers 50 Watts per channel and Hi-Res audio decoding, but only across five channels of output with support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. And while reduced as compared to the NR1609, the NR1509’s six HDMI inputs offer plenty of 4K-capable connectivity.

Owner conveniences on both models include audio streaming via Bluetooth, AirPlay, and Marantz’s highly functional HEOS app. Add voice control via Amazon Alexa, and Marantz’s new slimline models can be controlled without lifting a finger. The unit’s out-of-box integration procedure is guided by a simple on-screen setup assistant and Audyssey’s MultEQ room correction software. Audyssey’s MultEQ editor app (iOS and Android, $20) can be purchased separately, introducing owners to higher levels of custom room correction functionality.

According to Emmanuel Millot, global brand director at Marantz: “Marantz has a legacy of providing absolute top-notch audio solutions for consumers who value sound quality, visual clarity, ease-of-use and beauty above all else. The latest slimline network receivers continue to embody this tradition of excellence. Putting audio and video quality first, both receivers are packed with power and the latest video technologies. We’ve also added HEOS for multiroom wireless chops and Amazon Alexa support to easily control content with your voice.”

The NR1609 and NR1509 are available for purchase now.

Maybe 7 HDMI in back and one in front? But it does meet min requirements for me
