HSU Research's ULS-15 MK2 Subwoofer Giveaway Entry Thread

full?d=1510946856.png

AV NIRVANA is excited to announce a new Giveaway Promotion! This time we’ve partnered with HSU Research to deliver the gift of incredible chest pounding bass. Over the next four months, AV NIRVANA members can enter to win one of HSU’s high performance ULS-15 MK2 sealed subwoofers. And to spice things up, we’re offering members two ways to increase their entries to win, so be sure to read below!

HSU Research is one the industry’s most well-known Internet Direct brands, backed by decades of experience and loyal customers. The company’s subwoofers and speakers are designed to deliver first-class audio experiences while remaining friendly to the wallet. AV NIRVANA recently reviewed the company’s ULS-15 MK2 subwoofer and raved about its performance capabilities. The review sample (which was opened as a new product) is now up for grabs, ready and waiting to be delivered to the home of one lucky AV NIRVANA member. This is a fantastic opportunity to spice up your system by adding the raw subsonic power of a ULS-15 MK2.

The ULS-15 MK2 was first unveiled during 2016 and is HSU’s only sealed subwoofer design. It carries a 15-inch driver powered by a 600 Watt BASH amp (2000 Watts peak) that features convenient onboard tuning options. It’s overall size (19-in H x 18-in W x 19-1/2-in D with grill, feet, and amp) and weight (65-pounds), not only make it manageable but also room friendly. Our review found the ULS-15 MK2’s deep bass capabilities (20Hz – 200 Hz +/- 1 dB) and quick attack made it extraordinarily capable for both music and home theater duties. Make no mistake about it, this is a killer subwoofer!

Click here for more information about HSU Research and the ULS-15 MK2 sub, and click here to read AV NIRVANA's review!

How to Enter
  1. You must be a registered member on AV NIRVANA
  2. Respond below and tell us what you find appealing about the HSU Research ULS-15 Subwoofer. Please be specific and include details about the sub and how you would integrate it with your system. If you don't currently own a system, it's okay to dream! Just tell us about the system you'd like to build around it! The more detail the better!

Double or Triple Your Entries!
We’re offering members TWO easy ways to gain more entries in the contest!

1) Earn one extra entry by creating an AV Showcase for your home theater, media room, or two-channel listening space. Everyone has an interesting space to share – from the creative DIY area, to the multifunctional, to the dedicated room – and we’d like to see it! All you have to do is share a few pictures, a gear list, and some basic information! It’s easy to do and a great way to share ideas with other members. Click here to get started! And for those members with rooms already in the Showcase, you’ll be awarded an extra entry automatically!

2) Members with at least 100 posts on the forum by March 20, 2018 will gain TWO entries in the contest, and members with 1,000 posts will receive THREE automatic entries to win! This will be an ongoing bonus that can be applied to all future Giveaway Promotions (for example, once a member reaches 100 posts on the forum, they will always receive an extra entry in all future contests). As the forum grows, we'll likely continue to expand this benefit, so stick around! It’s our way for saying “thank you” to members who are active in the community.

First of all and most importantly it has a 15" diaphragm. This made me sit up and take notice. As everyone knows it's all about movement of air at lower frequencies. The massive diaphragm coupled with the amplifier and I assume a massive voice coil and driver should move more air than just about any sub out there. Years ago I checked out HSU Research. They were kind enough to send a price list, and I was surprised at the price point. They offer remarkably great value. The designs are clean and the performance curves are impressive. One word sums up my opinion, "Want!".

Wow. A acoustic HSU 15. Right down my alley. Would be my choice to upgrade from the 20 year old Cerwin Vega I am using over a BIC f12 that just sits in a spare room. With the Airmotiv T2's I bet it would really shake the house (and all the little Avon things the Boss has on the walls). Sign me up please...

Win an HSU Research ULS-15 MK2 Subwoofer!: Todd Anderson, post: 16293
Second Giveaway Contest:
November 19, 2017; 10:32 P.M.

Dear AV NIRVANA Contest Coordinator:

IMA START-N from SCRATCH: I'm beginning to build my 1st home/portable sound studio [myEmpire]. I have had significant experience with top of the line equipment during my academic career with Virginia Tech. Without access, I must build my own system from scratch that will meet a variety of portable and studio specs. As an academic and musician with the love of research and development, I've been very fortunate to have accumulated experiences formally and professionally {e.g., music, technology, performance, academic programming for on-campus and distributed learning environments.} My retirement challenge is not time, not space, not idea generation, bla, bla, bla, bla, it's my limited retirement income. Mostly, my challenge is my audiophile complex {super spoiled} from years of access to superior equipment and geniuses to whom I was privy.

I'm so excited to hear your gift, so much so, that I promise you sound researcher partnership to help augment future audiophilia expectation. Hope my entry clearly vibrates your hearts and look forward to meeting you. I'm beboppin at the prospect... { Do you hear what I hear? .... :-) }

Your future partner,

Sherri Guilliams Turner, Ph.D.
IMA START-N from SCRATCH

P.S. The idea of jumpstarting my studio, made the standard boring competition submission a blast to write.

With my theater space being a basement family room that is as likely to see kids jumping from couch to couch and building forts to watching movies or listening to music while working out, the room is large and at the same time the space is limited. The ULS-15 MK2 has a great form factor for this type of room and would pair nicely with the sound I already have set up. This would go at the corner of the two couches in a dead space that is befitting a nearfield sub and would complement the two sealed 18s up front (Chane SBE-118s run off Dayton SA-1000). The SBE-118s hit hard and I love them, but MOAR BASS! My wife cringes when I mention it would be cool to build a couple ported 18s for behind the couch...so I think this would be a fair compromise <evil grin>.

Well, as a reader, and never one to join...here I am. ha. Thanks for the give away! Obviously, HSU is a name well known to anyone who's done some research. And that model has spectacular reviews. I have moved across the country to take care of a family matter. My SVS sub took a bit of a beating. It happens. So, this will not be a step backwards for sure. Thanks again, look forward to reading (as I always have, here, and the last place). PS. enjoyed the speaker eval's. Added the emotive's to my list because of it. And the SVS which was leading my list. (Waiting for the new Chanes...)

Dthe fact that you have a sealed 15” sub that I could lift without hurting myself. I’d use this sub to replace two lightweight Polk ps505’s.

This is another awesome giveaway! Thanks for organizing these.

I am currently building a dedicated theater, and will be installing all new gear in it from the ground up. I intend to use sealed 15" subs in multiples, and the Hsu is a very attractive option with stellar sound (if Todd is to be believed :T) and a pretty amazing value. There is one other option I am considering, but if I were to win this one I think the decision will be made for me!

Considering the ULS-15 MK2 or the VTF2-MK5. Cost is the issue, but since I will only be listening to music on this sub I would love to stretch into the ULS-15 MK2... or win it! Either way, I'm planning to pair my sub with two CCB-8-P speakers. Can't wait to get the whole system together!

I have definitive technology bp-2000's and bp-10's. Guys told me to get a sub(s) for my next addition instead of using the 2000's built ins. I have been told HSU was the best fit for my taste and budget by numerous forums, even over the PB-16 ultra recently. Guys said two HSU's would be better than one ultra. So, I took a loan from work to buy one but life took a crap and priorities changed. That was two years ago. Now I had enough to buy two for Christmas this year but again, priorities changed and I helped my dad by paying for my mom's funeral. What perfect timing for such a great subwoofer giveaway! It's all I want, all I read about and all I talk about on line. Honestly I don't even listen to my system as much cause I want more. I want Subs!! I don't gamble and never even won on a scratch off. Maybe this is my time, thanks for the opportunity.

I've always preferred sealed subs, but the price/ performance ratio in my budget range has usually dictated a ported sub. Currently I'm using a 12" ported sub, but would love to have a 15" sealed box with basically the same low end extension. The small cabinet size on this is also attractive, as for most of us real estate is at a premium.

I'm a fan of anything that drives smooth bass extension from my towers and that allows me to put the work on the sub, rather than force the towers down to their breaking point. I have a fairly dedicated space that needs lots of power to fill it!

I have two of the Hsu ULS-15 first generations and am very curious how the lighter, cheaper, non-XBL^2 design compares. I'm skeptical after reading reviews saying that it is better in every way.... but, I still only have one sub in my HT room and it would be fun to have more!

Dreaming of building my own system. Followed the links and read about all the HSU speakers. Amazing what can be had for relatively so little! If I manage to win this sub it will be the start of something awesome.... Down the rabbit hole we go!

I need a new sub and this would certainly work better than the one I have now. My homebrew type re-build did not turn out as well as I had hoped. Next time I will do better, but this HSU would be great.

I love HSU subs. I like the 15'' driver and the Q settings 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 as that has much impact on the bass. Plus it is fun to play around with :)
I would try to integrate it with my 2 subs since it is a sealed sub or simply place in a different room for solely music.

I'm in to win!

What more can be said other than the fact that one can always use MORE subwoofers?!

Honestly the main appeal to me is the namebrand Hsu Research. I've never owned one, but several of my friends do. So I've heard numerous of the Hsu research products and have always been impressed by them. Also +/- 1db from 200-20Hz response is very attractive. That kind of frequency response coupled with in-room gain will be very, very nice addition to my set up!

I've been looking for a high quality subwoofer and after almost deciding on an SVS SB13U. UNTIL I read the reviews on the ULS-15. I can buy a pair of Hsu's for the price of one SB13U and get a much more satisfying result.

Count me in also please! I have two SVS subs currently deployed in my Atmos enabled setup. At the time SVS and HSU were the final two companies I was considering and ultimately went with SVS but it was honestly a coin flip. I’m not sure where I would put a third but it would be a nice problem to figure out. Good luck to all!

I'm in! I have a pretty good system now, (to me at least) but I'm definitely coming down with a case of upgradeitis ;). A ULS-15 MK2 would be a nice upgrade from my Outlaw LFM-Plus. Thanks for the opportunity to win a great sub!

Im looking for a good sub that is musical first, reasonable size and good tight bass. I find a lot of subs like my old def tec ultra with passive radiators to sound poor and thick compaired to just my polks 8 inch woofer.

Still in the market for a sub to boost the low end of my DIYSG titan lx speakers. If I don't win, I will be adding this sub to a very short list for near future purchase thanks to this review. The three things that make this sub great are price, performance, and size(weight).

Count me in!
Currently, I own a set of JBL LSR305's, the whole range of inputs is going to make it a lot easier to integrate this sub into my setup. Also, the range of the crossover is amazing!
