Importing Impulse Response

Hello!

I am having trouble importing an Impulse Response I measured with another system. I currently get the error:

filename.wav
is not in a supported audio format

file is not in a supported file type

The file is a wave file that I created using csv data in LabVIEW. I can open and play the file in GoldWave though.
I have included a zip file containing my original csv file, and the generated wave file.

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Regards,

Sam S.

Per REW Help; "Only Signed PCM files are supported, with 16, 24 or 32 bit samples and only the first 1,024,576 samples are imported."

If that is not the issue, more info is located within REW via; "help/menu/file".

I think the problem resides with REW.

I can save the OP's file as 16bit and REW will readily import it.

OTOH, REW ( latest version ) won't import any WAV file higher than 16 bit ( Signed PCM, 24bit or 32 bit ).

I just loaded the wav file into Audacity to check the format. It was 32 bit floating. That format is not supported. Audacity or other program can convert the file to 32 bit PCM. I can do that on request.

DRC, rePhase and other programs offer 32 bit floating and, at least for me, it would be very convenient if REW supported that format also.

Hi John,

I have GoldWave on this computer.

Maybe the problem is Goldwave is not properly resaving these WAVE files.

I've imported an mp3 file into GoldWave and then saved it as a Signed 24bit PCM file .
- REW still says it's not a supported format and therefore will not import it .

How about trying the same exercise within Audacity?

:)

Thanks everyone for the response!
I generated the file as 16bit (I had been generating at 24bit) and REW accepted it. It seems that was the problem.

Thanks again everyone!

Earl,
I just now converted it to 32bit PCM in Audacity and it loaded into REW. Attached FYI.

Thanks John,

Your efforts show that the ( format ) problem is attributable to Goldwave's conversion process.

Yes, ( the problem is ) Goldwave Version 5.7 ( for 32-bit Windows OS ) doesn't work properly when saving a file to a signed 24bit or 32bit copy.

The PCM signed restriction in REW dates from V5.0 when it supported Java 6, as Java 6 did not support float samples. Since V5.10 REW has required Java 7 though, and Java 7 does support the float formats, so I have added support for 32-bit and 64-bit float formats in the next beta release.
